Wrangler 0-60 and quarter mile times

I've searched online through the car magazines for road tests of Jeep Wranglers. I haven't found any of the typical performance data such as acceleration times, skidpad or slalom numbers. I'm very curious, especially to note the differences between a 2 door and unlimited.

Does anyone have any sources? Many years ago Motortrend had tested a TJ in a typical road test review but I still can't find anything on the JK.

0-60 is important in a sport car...not a jeep. That is why this information is so difficult to find on a jeep. Reading through the forums, you will find a lot of threads authored by disappointed new jeep owners about how sluggish the jeep wrangler is. The jeep is a capable vehicle for what its purpose is...off road, with good on road manners. The power plant and gearing has been chosen to maximize torque to the wheels in mostly SLOW off road situations. They throw in some high gears so that you can get to the trail on the roads that other cars drive on. If you bought it for getting off the stop line well, then you got the wrong type of vehicle.

One thing that I can say about my Rubicon, because of the low gearing, it does do well off of the stop but I am not frustrated or embarrassed when a sport car beats me off of the stop. It is just the facts of owning a special purpose vehicle and you have to be realistic in your expectations. On the flip side I don't see ANY sports cars on many of the trails that I have been on.

0-60 times are also an indication of how much passing power a vehicle has which is something people using their Wrangler as a daily driver would be interested in.

The Pentastar had some nice power in the Grand Cherokee I test drove so it will be more than enough for the Wrangler.

I disagree, the 50-70 mph time is an indicator of passing power. 0-60 is more of an all inclusive indicator of power to weight ratio and how well the power can be put to the ground. With enough gear and traction you can get a decent 0-60 time out of anything. 50-70 mph actually takes power with no exceptions.

I have a GT-R that I am about to get Alpha 9 modded for getting low 0-60 times. I never even considered looking 0-60 times up on the Jeep I bought! I think of a Jeep as a top off, zero-stress driver....

Like someone else said though, you can mod anything and get crazy 0-60 times. I have a friend who owned a modified 60s LandRover for awhile that had over 800 HP. It was a beast (now he has a Grand National that is alcohol powered and is over 1000 HP!).

Now that I've had a few minutes to think about it, because of this thread, perhaps I will have to add a supercharger to my incoming 2012 Rubicon! Goodbye zero-stress....

Is that on the Trails? (up hill, down hill, with rocks , no rocks, loose dirt, with water, w/o water on the trail, Oh! and is the terrain open or is it tight with trees?
I've seen some Jeeps compete on some local Mud Races, but they only ran 70-80 meters in the mud...some were really fast.
I once saw a guy on the 1/4 mile track race a Hummer... let me tell you, I saw no race car in it. I guess the guy had already tried some trails and mud races... the poor guy was still looking to see what purpose his TOY really had.

If I recall correctly it was 9 seconds 0-60.I don't think that time was distinguished by 4dr or 2dr.(or by gearing)

If anybody cares.I know I don't.

typically when I pass someone, I am on the highway and doing in excess of 60. you can have plenty of power 0-60 and very little above that.

Seems like (from the link posted above) the Unlimiteds are around 2 seconds slower 0-60 than the 2dr--2drs are in the low 9s. Perhaps those numbers will change a tiny bit on the 2012s with the new engines (8s 0-60s for 2drs??).

The 2011 Grand Cherokee has a 0-60 of 8.0 seconds. It is conceivable that the 2012 2dr Wranglers could be somewhere in the 7 second range considering the weight differences between these vehicles. It all depends on how the Jeep engineers end up tuning the vehicles. They may not want them accelerating that fast for safety or other reasons...

thanks for the google-fu link on Jeep times....

sort of like the notion when there's 1 watch, you know the time is "3:18"....when there's 2 watches, you know the time is "3:18 and "3:23"....when there's 10 watches you only know the time might be something between "3:12" and "3:45"

Straight forward question that somehow I had never considered such in my own weary search for Wrangler Fun.

Show me a car with a respectable 0-60 time that doesn't have passing power?

Pretty much any truck that has a real truck engine in it that doesn't rev over 5000 rpm.

This is the tool I use to measure my 0-60 acceleration. This thread has gotten me to very nearly care what my 0-60 time is as well.

Thought I would look to see where my '04 fell in the mix ---only saw an '03 and they said it was a V-6--kinda skeptical of the whole page of data now--or was there a V-6 wrangler?

I believe in 2003 you could get a 2.4 I4 or a 4.0 I6

I like that my Jeep goes from 0' (sea level) to 6000' and I don't need a road to do it.

I still never get the JK is a slug statement, then too I have a 2dr not a JKU. But just today, I pulled out from a blind spot and a car came flying over the hill. I stomped the petal down and it even turned over. Not what I would call a burn out but it turned over non the less and got up to the speed limit of 45 in seconds. My JK has no problems getting up and going not to mention passing with ease.

The Grand Cherokee is a more sleek aerodynamic Jeep with more street like tires. A JK is a rolling brick. I think your going to be very disappointed if you think the JK will do better then a Grand Cherokee. And the JKU also weighs as much as the Cherokee

Jeep 0-60 Times & Jeep Quarter Mile Times | Jeep Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Compass, Wrangler, Patriot 0-60, CJ5 and new Jeep 0 to 60 stats!

They are showing 10.1 for JK and 11.3 for JKU

If you want a faster 0-60, get an FJ. Actually, a v6 Rav4 will even beat that...just restrict your off-roading to your neighbor's front lawn 'cause it won't handle much else.
