Wtf?! I give up.....

If anyone can give me some really good suggestions and/or solutions for these two issues, I would be sooooo very grateful.

You know that grey smooshy foam type stuff that cushions the underneath side of the front of the soft top? There is also some on the front of the plastic piece that attaches to the rollbar above the doors that the soft top header rests on. Well......that stupid stuff stuck together on me the other day while folding back the Sunrider for the very first time. As a result, it made a very small pea-sized hole in the piece of foam attached to the soft top header on the passenger side. As a result, a little of the bare plastic (or is it metal?) underneath where the foam was on the header (location is the flat square area near leading edge of soft top canvas) is exposed and has been rubbing slightly on that small flat rectangular plastic tab piece that sticks up off from the plastic piece attached to the roll bar above the door (the knob things attach it). As a result, this rubbing has caused the top right 90 degree angle corner on that tab to become "rounded" and worn down a smidge. Do you have any recommendations for fixing this or possibly what I can buy to completely replace this POS grey foam with something similar? My concern is that the continued rubbing on this piece may possibly cause additional excessive wind noise (not characteristic of a Wrangler) and potential leaking if it rains hard enough.

Second issue is I noticed two very tiny dings in the painted metal piece that sits between the top of the windshield and the front edge of the soft top on the driver's side about 4-6 inches in from the corner of the windshield. No idea in the world how they got there. Thankfully, the paint is not scraped, just a very minor surface mark that I'm sure Scratch Doctor will take out. Any chance of being able to pull out (or suction out) these dings? If not, I can definitely live with it, but it just annoys me that the Jeep is only 3 weeks old and I have gone through all this shit already.

Thanks everyone. This is a great forum and everyone has been so very helpful so far with all of my questions (even if they do seem stupid to the more seasoned Jeepers - LOL).

Happy Jeepin'!

I can't help with the dings, but the foam is easy.

I accidentally tore part of mine off opening my top and it leaked badly at that spot. I went to Home Depot and bought a roll of self adhesive 1/2 inch door weatherstripping for $5. I cut a small piece off and it worked like a charm. If I ever need more I have a lifetime supply.

Beautiful!! Thanks Tom. I assume that you mean 1/2 inch thick, correct? And did you stick it on the soft top header piece itself or the other plastic piece?

It's 1/2 inch wide I believe and yes, it's foam. You stick it to the plastic door surround, not the top.

Uh-oh. I bought some that was 3/4 inch wide and 1/2 inch thick and stuck it to the header itself (not the canvas top). There was originally foam on both the header and the door surround. The foam on the header is what had a hole in it. The foam on the door surround appeared to be OK. Should I peel this off the header and stick a new piece to the door surround or just leave it on the header and put some on the door surround too?

If I'm understanding you correctly, then the dings were probably caused by the door limiting straps being removed and the cowl being hit by the mirrors when the door swung completely open.

Um....no. In my original post I stated that the dings are located on the metal painted piece that sits between the TOP of the windshield and the leading (front) edge of the soft top. Thanks for the thought though.

I would ask a good body shop in your area. The paintless dent repair now is awesome and relatively inexpensive. Probably no more than a couple hundred bucks is my guess.

I had hail damage in April to both my Acura TL and my 07 JK. I have a soft top on my JK so it was only the hood, but my Acura had dings everywhere including the roof!!!

The highly recommended body shop here in Charlotte did paintless dent repair on both, which means no messing with the factory paint. If they can do paintless on the roof of an Acura, they can probably do it anywhere on a JK. You can't even tell there was ever hail damage, and with paintless you never have to report it. And it never gets picked up by CarFax even if you go through insurance.

Great process I would recommend it.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to check it out. The bad news is that I did call Dent Wizard and they told me that they would not be able to fix it at all because of the location. I guess they use long rods to try "massage" the dent out. Unfortunately, the piece of my jeep that has dings on it is solid metal and there is no access to get in there to fix it (at least that's what they told me). Is there another type of paintless dent repair that does not have to access the inside area of the dent/ding to fix it?

Happy Jeepin'!

Sorry DirtyGirl that sux. I would still try to get a second opinion about the PDR because I think that is your best bet if possible. I know what piece you are talking about though as I just installed my windshield sticker last weekend. And that strip seems like it is a solid piece. Totally bummed for you if that is the case.

Good luck I really hope it works out right for you.

Rock on.

There shouldn't be any foam on the header. If it was there it got stuck by accident. Use half inch wide foam on the surround only in the area wear it was originally.
