WTF Jeep!

I ordered a jeep wrangler sport S about 7 weeks ago and finally got it yesterday :) On the way home I was messing around with the buttons and realized I could not turn the A/C on. I pulled over and checked it out and no matter what I did nothing would work. I had a mini panic attack thinking I forgot to order it, I looked online and it said Sport S is supposed to have a/c on the two door model.

I phoned my car-salesmen and brought it in for him to see. He agrees that it was supposed to have it and is now talking to his boss to see what they can do.

How screwed up is that? I am assuming they are going to have to tear the whole inside out to install it, I doubt they will order me another one.

Has this happened to anyone before? I am almost worried they forgot to add other things, like the 3.73 option I picked...

Thoughts?

I gave my dealer a specific list of options that I wanted in my jeep. I had it all itemized nice and clear.

Every vehicle they found for over a week was missing at least one item on the list.

Believing the dealer could read and was looking out for me I almost ordered the first one they found for me after only casually reading the sticker.

Caught it but have always wondered if they would have tried to stick me with the jeep they had to locate and transport because they chose not to read my list of must haves.

What does the sticker say about the vehicle you purchased? Are those options supposed to be there?

Best of luck!!!

I ordered this jeep from factory so they gave me a build sheet with my name on it. It says Wrangler Sport 's' on it and that model is supposed to come with a/c, it is not an option. It has everything else I ordered on the list. I honestly have no idea what is going to happen.

Welcome to the world of....Jeep?

It'll happen. I bought an Eagle Talon years ago with AC...only sans AC. It was an easy fix. They build vehicles for options like AC. All the stuff should be there as far as connections go. Sorry for the issue though. Does the top leak?

^2 on have them order a new one( what you ordered)......Why have them start messing with things already when it was ordered the way you wanted it built...They can sell it..It's their problem.. This might be the start of becoming a "new" Jeep owner, and you don't want to start off in the shop/dealership for something that wasn't your problem. My opinion...It's bad enough with recalls when you get them, having the dealer rip things apart.

What does the build sheet show from Jeep? If you don't have it yet you can find it here:

http://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/BuildSheetServlet?vin=[PUT-YOUR-VIN-HERE]

EDIT: The forum is messing up the link here it, you will have to cut n paste:
###www.jeep.com/webselfservice/BuildSheetServlet?vin=[PUT YOUR VIN HERE]###

Copy the link and replace your vin to the end, *do not add spaces/dashes and remove the brackets [ ]. This should download your build sheet directly from Jeep, you can see what it was built with in detail. Check for the A/C and gearing, etc...

Let us know...

If it doesn't have A/C, they will have to order another one for you. From what I understand, it is difficult to install A/C on a non-A/C JK and costs a heap. It will be cheaper for them to sell this one used and order another.

Many years ago a dealer sold me a car that was s'pose to have AC. Never had a car that had AC. Got home and couldn't figure out how to turn it on. Called them about it, they just said to bad.

Hired a lawyer. When my lawyer finished they installed factory AC and I got a nice check for my troubles.

After that all the dealers went to an arbitration clause you had to sign to buy a vehicle from them.

That's what I was gonna ask. Is the compressor, condenser, etc. present under the hood or is it a full on AC delete. If no AC components and you ordered an S package, it sounds like it jeeps fault and not the dealers. I'd make jeep let you drive it till they sent the correct one.

If the AC system hardware listed above is not installed at the factory it will always be a bastardized vehicle. Send it back or get some compensation for it.

BTW, 7 weeks order to delivery is not too bad. They sure rushed it. Check for other missing parts.

I don't even see an option to delete A/C from a sport S. You can get a non-s with the 3.73 though...but if that were the case, you should be able to tell by not having the aluminum 17 " wheels.

What other options did you order besides the S package and the 3.73s?

I don't know if you want to post the VIN so someone else can look over the build sheet (or print it off and upload a picture).

If it isn't on the build sheet, I seriously doubt it is there. There is no factory equivalent way of making the addition of A/C and will be a major inconvenience to you "their new customer". I would call Jeep (IAMJEEP) directly and get them involved to help pressure the dealer to help resolve this more quickly. Having your dissatisfaction on record with Jeep early won't hurt if things get ugly.

I have: the Customer Preferred Package 24s, Connectivity group, 32 inch tire wheel group, trailer tow group, power convenience group, mopar black appearance group, seat side airbags, auto trans, 3.73, anti spin rear axle, and the freedom hardtop.

If I have not received a phone call by Friday morning I am going back there to speak to him in person. It is probably best to push this issue as hard as I can.

Yes it has a leather steering wheel and leather/chrome shifter.

I am off to work now, I will check back on my breaks.

Ouch! For a minute I was thinking the dealer mis-printed the window tag and made it look like a "S" model, but as far as I know, the shifter is chrome and the steering wheel leather for the "S" model only.

I pulled two random window stickers just to compare - first, this one is the base sport. Look at the right side column and you'll see it's a 24B (automatic), and they did add the A/C as an option and the hard top.

http://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=1C4AJWAG2FL617472

The one below is a Sport S -

http://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=1C4AJWAG1FL555899

Notice that right below 24S on the right is the A/C as part of the package.

Honestly, I would call and open a Star case on it right away and have them rebuild it. With how much has changed in how they build vehicles now, I wouldn't want them messing with adding the A/C. Five years from now if something happened - I believe the dealer would love saying, well, it's because they added this A/C after it left the factory, that's causing all these problems, and it's not under warranty, etc..

If your not satisfied with the dealer, definitely escalate to Chrysler. When i got my Jku sport last year, I ordered the connectivity package but the remote USB was not in the console. The salesman was an ass- saying that it wasn't listed as being in console on sticker. Anyway, Chrysler acknowledged that there was a mistake. The jeep was built correctly (meaning the assembly line didn't mess up), but whoever updates the database of parts needed for each package didn't have the necessary parts included.

I was patient and had to take the jeep in several times to the dealer (Chrysler sent the wrong parts a couple of times and/or was missing a part. Long story short, it was fixed and Chrysler even sent me a check equivalent to one months payment for my I convenience (due to multiple dealer appts).

I wouldn't want the dealer touching anything unless you have it in writing from Chrysler that a dealer installed ac is same as factory and. Will not void warranty in any way.

Selous,
Is there a compressor under the hood?
Is there a compressor under the hood?

You should look just to make sure.

I would not wait on this, I would take it back the very first day you know about it and talk to a manager as it will not be the salesman's decision how to fix.

Did you mention how long you have had the jeep?

#31 ·
^^^^ This. Is there a compressor? Can't believe this hasn't been looked for at this point.

In any case...looks like it's not the dealers fault (I say this because you said the build sheet from when you ordered was correct). Because it's not the dealer, maybe you should deal with Chrysler directly.

I wouldn't allow the dealership to install the A/C, even if Chrysler compensated me with that. Many times they don't even change the oil right!

I've had the jeep since Tuesday and let them know later that day when I realized it did not have a/c. I am actually getting a little annoyed now that I think about it. The salesman seemed super realxed saying they can fix it or figure out the problem relatively easy.

On Wednesday he told me to wait for a phone call and if I had not received one by Monday to call back, if I have not received a phone call my 2pm today I am calling the sales manager. If they try play games with me I will contact Chrysler, even though I don't even know where to begin.

I am a little intimated because of my age and this being the first new vehicle I have bought. It may sound silly but I have no idea where the compressor would be under the hood.

I'll take a picture of my sheet I got from the dealer with the specs and upload it on a few minutes.

I hope I am not causing too much drama here being a new member and all.

Thanks again.

Keep on the dealership, and call Jeep if necessary. The dealership is hoping that if they delay long enough, you'll go away.

Depending on your state, there may be some sort of 'buyers remorse' clause that says you have x days to return a major purchase (like a vehicle). They may be hoping to run out the clock on that...and as a result of these laws, at this point, they may not have even submitted the title paperwork.

If I ordered a vehicle, and it didn't match my order when I went to pick it up, I wouldn't take delivery. Similarly, if I noticed after picking it up that something didn't match my order, I'd take it back.

Personally, if it were at all possible, I'd get that thing back to the dealership and leave it there. Give them the keys; it is between them and Chrysler to figure out who screwed up (in this case, most likely Chrysler, unless there is an 'A/C delete' option in the dealer ordering system, in which case the dealer may have screwed up, but I doubt it), and then either the dealer can sell this to someone else, or more likely Chrysler will buy it back from the dealership.

In any case, you need to make it clear to the dealer that you do not 'accept' the vehicle as delivered.
