www.jeep.com's Stated Towing Capacity - 2011 Wrangler Sport

Jeep's Website below states 2000 lbs. but other printed material published by Jeep states that it is 1000 lbs.?

Please confirm---is the website's 2000 lb. correct? Or, is it 1000 lbs.. I need to know for sure before planning the load and towing of a utility trailer.

Jeep - Compare Vehicle and Model Specifications - Highlights

----

Path that I followed on the Jeep website above:

2011 Models: Wrangler Sport

Models:HIGHLIGHTS
Additional Key Features: >> Engine/Transmission >> 6-Speed Manual Transmission / 3.8-Liter V6 SMPI Engine

DIMENSIONS & CAPACITIES
Capacities/Weights: >> Towing Capacity - Maximum >> 2000 lbs.

Thank you for your efforts in helping me out.

Cheers+

Mark

According to the chart in my owners manual (page 425) and my set up, it shows a 2000# limit (MTW) with a max 200# tongue weight. I will stick with the numbers in my manual, should be the same in yours (2 door manual 3.8).

OOPS! just noticed you live in Canada, might be different IDK, either way I would go by what your manual says.

Thank you John:

Wow, it's not been easy---seems that 3.8L/Manual, Two-Door X Model (4WD) can have either a 3.21 or 3.73 Axle (ratio). the first can tow 1000 lbs with 100 lbs Tongue Wt.---the latter, 2000 lbs with 200 lbs Tongue Wt.. (see Guide pics x 2 attached (PDF format)).

Now, I have to figure out which I have....3.21 or 3.73?

Jeep's website doesn't differentiate between the two axle ratio's---just states 2000 lbs. for 2001 Wrangler Sport. Too bad, it'll likely set customer expectations---and some Jeep buyers may make a purchase decision without realizing that what they get is a 3:21---pull up to 2000 lbs.---then pay the consequences. Yikes.

If you are buying a jeep and intend to tow, it would make sense to opt for the towing package.

The window sticker should have the gear ratio on it.
