Yo! Jk folks..is this a good buy!?!

I've been out of my TJ for about 2yrs now and miss it terribly, so the wife and I have decided to try for a 4dr JK..my boss has one and shot me a price the other day, I wanted to get some of your expert opinions on the case.

This is as much info as I know on it right now..

2008 Unlimited X, 4x4, Auto, Power windows, locks, etc, 2 tops..3piece hardtop and a soft top, mileage in the 90k mark, 4" lift with 33" tires and 18" chrome rims (dont know specifics really on the aftermarket stuff right now) its in good shape cuz he dont wheel it, just mainly a show piece and a cruiser

He said he would do $17,500 since I work for him...and from what I've been finding online it seems like a pretty decent price..ideas? concerns?

That's a great deal for you! As long as all the parts were installed properly and it hasn't been abused to hard. But it seems like a good buy. Post pictures and specifics when you find out. Just for reference I just bought a 07 JKU Sahara with all the features you described for $20,499. It only has 40,000 mi though. But if he is your boss chances are he wouldn't screw you especially since he has to see you on a daily basis.

Do a price check on edmunds.com. I'd find out in detail what was done for the 4" lift, if it's not done properly that can cause a ton of problems.

Price seems decent to me, I always worry when people lift and put on bigger tires as often they do a half ass job.

I'd be most curious about the lift and tires. The rest seems reasonable for the price. 4" seems a little high for just 33" tires considering you can put 33s on an unlifted JK/JKU. And lots of issues can arise at the 4+" mark.

What brand lift & shocks?
How many miles on the lift & tires?
What lift parts are there?
Is there a high steer kit?
How is caster & pinion corrected?

Knowing these things can help you decide if you are staring into a money pit or if you really are getting a good deal. Any other aftermarket goodies? Bumpers/tire carrier, winch, sliders?

A 4 inch lift on a jk would about clear 37's, it'd look at little weird with just the 33s

If he went with decent gear, that's a good deal.

As for the wheels, 18's are standard on Sahara's so they aren't that out of place, like 22's or something. As long as they have the off-road style like these Pro-Comps, I think it would be ok.

Just cant have the Hummer style:

That seems to be the going price around here in South Florida. Actually a bit higher. I see similar ones go for 19-21k.

That seems to be high miles for the price but they do hold their value. I would not pay that much for a 2008 Jeep with 90,000. I'd rather buy a new Sport or a low-miles Sport.

I am buying a 2008 Sahara manual, soft top with 45,000 mi. for $20,500. I wanted stock, so I didn't have to "un-do" anything.

I wish you well with your decision!

I bought my '08 JK 2 door for $18000, has power w/d, auto, hardtop, brand new Goodyear Wranglers. 69,000 miles, 1 owner who serviced it at the dealership SHE bought it at with all records. It's immaculate. Your Jeep seems like a good price with the options and extras despite the mileage. With 33" tires, the odometer may be a bit off unless he had it calibrated for the tires

My cousin just picked up an 08 sport 2 Dr with 34K miles, 33s on 17" alloys, 2 inch lift and steel tube bumpers. $21K. Bottom line, check around a little bit to see if there actually ARE any local steals. If not, go with your boss' rig, that being your best option.

No way I would pay that much for one with 90k miles on it when you can get brand new for a little more. The new 3.6 is worth the extra money alone.
