I am new to the forum, hope I am posting in the correct place. I have purchased a new Sahara unlimited and i am looking at a zone 4" lift with 275/65/r20 tires. the local shop has been in business for 20 years and has recommended this kit with a steering stabilizer. I will not be a heavy off road user, mostly a weekend warrior at best. I was looking for any opinions about this lift?
That's a tall and narrow tire. Actually a decent look in my opinion for 20's, and a little shorter than a 35. You'll catch a little grief here for 20's, as it is not a "preferred" wheel size. We run 35's on 2.5" lifts all day long, so a 4" is too much lift for that tire. I'd say the 3" would be a much better match...
Zone is a mid to low end lift kit and better known for lifts on older Jeeps. Their shocks are average at best and they use cheap ass cam washers/bolts for caster adjustment. The 4" uses an axle side track bar bracket, but the 3" uses a frame side that is not as desirable.
Let's start from the beginning, what is your budget? Usually Zone is in the mix when someone is trying to keep the price very low and your Jeep's suspension isn't where I would cut costs like that.
Thanks for the reply. my first idea was a 3 inch lift, but the local shop had recommended the 4 inch stating the jeep would look like someone just shoved wheels and tires under it.
what size rim are most guys runnig18x10? with 35 x10.50's ? my budget is pretty low 3500.00 range..

If that shop recommended a 4" lift with a Zone kit - I wouldn't take my Jeep there. Get yourself some 33x12.5x17 tires and wheels with a 2" Mopar or 2.5" Teraflex lift. Call it a day. JKs can run 37" tires with a 2.5" lift and flats.
Any thoughts on the Teraflex 2.5 budget boost with or without the Teraflex shocks ? Looks like a 2.5 lift will be adequate for my needs. Looking to take the rim size down from my original 20 inch,I would like to stay with the original 18 inch rim size, thoughts?
You can do 18's, I assume you are looking at aftermarket wheels with appropriate back spacing. A 295/65-18 is a great tire size and at 33.1 they are halfway between a 33 and a 35. That makes them great for a 2.5 budget boost. I'd avoid the TF shocks but the TF 2.5, using a better shock, is great and you can also look at the Rough Country Series II Budget Boost and the savings will really help with the cost of good shocks.
Thank you for all the great responses. Looks like I am leaning towards the RC 2.5 Series II kit. looking at 18 inch aftermarket rims, but still debating tire size.
Looks like the final decision will be the RC 2.5 BB and the RUB_RE 9800 drop brackets. Tire size looks like its going to be a 33(still deciding on brand) aftermarket rims 18x9 with a 4.5 back space. Looking fora few final opinions on steering stabilizers, and any input on drive shaft and front end issues to be aware of?
Couple thoughts; Depending on Tires you choose, 33" may only measure ~32" installed. My 315/70-17 Cooper STTs measure 34" on the Jeep, and as you can see in my photo, I think they look pretty good with the 2.5" lift.
I do not have a steering stabilizer, and the only other mod I did was add the 2" exhaust spacer to get the exhaust moved away from the from driveshaft (recommended on 2012+ models)
Any thoughts on the Teraflex JK 1.5" Leveling Kit? looks like I am going to get a little lift from the tires alone. the wife is short and we have 2 small girls, trying to keep it within reason for her to load the kids in.
Go for it. W/ flat flares and some stop you can run a 35.
