02 soft top a pain to take down and put up

I noticed the first time I took the top down that the soft top material was thicker than on other Wranglers I've had but I didn't know it would be so much more of a pain to deal with. I guess it's the 4 ply that only came on the TJ's in 02 and 03? I have had 3 YJ's and this is my 3rd TJ and this is by far the hardest TJ top to deal with. I just bought my 2002 X last month with only 45k miles and the guy who owned it since 4000 miles never took the top down and he claims the only other owner only had it down a couple of times. I hope it will get easier the more times I take it down and I know it will be easier the warmer it gets in the summer. Very hard to undo and to put back on above the doors because it is so tight. Anyone else notice this difference between top materials? Or am I just making a bigger issue out of it than it really is? Thanks

I have one on my 05 willys also and I can get it unclipped everywhere ok but can't get it to fold up nicely in the back. It just ends up a jumbled mess! I really like how it's green and kinda matches the body color but I'm seriously thinking about gettin a new top that folds up much neater.

It'll fold nicely if you practice and "train" it ... It does take some work tho'.

I had the same problem man, just wait until it warms up. Now I can put it on/off in 2minutes flat.

OMG you guys!....

Fabric has a memory for creases. If you fold it the same way several times it'll get to the point that it will always want to fold in the right spot. I know you knew that's what I meant, but darn it, y'all are bustin my chops!

My husband, much like most men, is unfortunately untrainable... But I love him, and I think I'll keep him He's pretty good to me, he let me get a Jeep, and he keeps letting me mod it, so what is there to complain about?
