03 Rubicon stuck in 4HI ?

My local service shop told me my Jeep is stuck in 4 wheel... they said the hubs must not be unlocking? My light is not on and the lever seams to be functioning ok....it shifts into 4HI and the light comes on like normal. shifts into 4LO and front and rear lockers engage and disengage just fine. I take it out of 4 wheel and the lights go out like its in 2 wheel...but it acts like its still in 4HI..turning wheels in parking lot it hunches and lurches like wanting to push front wheels instead of turning like if it was in 4 wheel???? Please HELP!!! Aren't the factory hubs ALWAYS locked ??? Could I be hung up in my transfer case and my light not be showing it? That's problem #1 My next issue is while driving the jeep it seems to have a jump to it ... the best way I can describe it is "on a dirt-bike if the chain slips on a worn out sprocket you get a momentary high rpm and sudden jerk" That's what it feels like... Its a 5 speed. it seems to do it in 3rd gear or higher. Here lately it seems to be doing it WAY more...especially in 5th gear. It used to do it more so when starting up slight inclines on interstate (TN hills), but now it is doing it like A BUNCH ??? Please help!!! Is my transfer case chain slipping over the gears? Any advice would be greatly appreciated !!!

From your description, the transfer case is stuck in 4WH.
The shifter if memory serves me, is what works your switches for the light and operating the lockers. SO even though the t case is in 4WH, moving the shifter will still work the indicator lamp and lock out for the lockers.

And most likely the jump is from running around in 4WH.
Sounds like the t case has a serious hurt.

And unless you have manual hubs, they never unlock. You have direct connection from the hub to the axle, to the diff, to the drive shaft, to the t case. The t case is what locks up to give you 4WD. The rest are all constantly connected.

Find another shop, as this one sounds like it doesn't know how 4WD works in a jeep.

And something else, maybe. The front locker could be stuck in the locked position.
Would give you the pushing feeling on turns as both wheels are trying to turn at the same speed.

Simple enough to check both the t case and locker operation on a lift.

Thanks for the reply Shelby427. That's what I was thinking. '' the transfer case''... It didn't make any sense to me about what they said about the auto-hubs not unlocking??While on the lift I turned the front tires and they rotated in opposite directions... which means the front locker is not engauged ...Right??? I wonder how much it costs to do a total rebuild of my T-case?( The 4:1 ) Thanks again!

Did you check your T-Case linkage.... sometimes mine will shift into 2wh, but the linkage didn't shift far enough forward an 4HI lift is still on. I've had to go underneather and push the linkage by-hand to make it travel far enough forward.

I was outside messing with the linkage earlier today... I cant seem to get it to go forward enough to unlock 4HI. I took the nut off and set the lever back a tad toward the 4HI position and re-tightened and tried to push forward with the lever while in gear rolling, out of gear ,manually by hand after loosening linkage arm again.... UGGG! its for sure not shifting out in the T-case though. Any thoughts as to why this would happen?
