04 Rubicon for a buddy ???

I bought my 98 the end of June, now a buddy has been looking but doesn't want to do anything to it. Today he called me and we went and looked at an 04 Rubicon. White with a/c, hard top, Rubicon express long arm 4 inch lift professionally installed, 35 inch tires close to new, clean engine, clean interior still smells new. 43,000 miles, only taking on off road once and it was a dirt road.

Owner sez nothing wrong with it just doesn't need it any more. Sez he'll take $17,000. Any yah's or nay's ?? Thanks.

I tried looking up similar rides on craigslist from all over the country and it is at the upper end even though blue book in excellent condition lists for 18.

sounds like a pretty good deal to me, i know kbb never factors in much for lift or larger tires, maybe only a few hundred in added value while a good setup (esp like you said likely cost a few grand).

I think it is a little high....BUT...if it is pristine, well done, not abused and has the kind of upgrades your friend would ultimately buy for his Jeep eventually...then I would go for it.
However...if it is more Jeep than he wants or needs or will ever use..then I would keep looking. 17K is a lot of green!

I think the 4.0 is a plus also. Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. If it was closer, I'd be looking at it.

Kbb

I just want to add this thought and I agree with you guys. I bought a new Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab 5.7 last Oct for $19,995. $14,600 under msrp. If I K.B.B. it today it still blue books for $24,9.

So maybe with the economy the way it is.........Kbb may be 5k high on everything. Just a thought.

Sounds about right, but never take the owner for what he says. IDK why someone would put a LA kit in and only go down a dirt road.

Crawl under the rig and see if there are any scraps on the Diffs & T-Case plate. That will tell you if it's been offroad as well as any abuse from rock crawling offroad.

Plus it also depends on what your friend has plan for using the rig. If just driving around and the occasional offroad, then would look for somethign else. I bought mine 4yrs ago with one intent, to wheel the crap out of it.

Price sounds right, reason sounds wrong. Who NEEDS a Jeep in the first place? Only those of us who love them and don't want to be without one. So I would take it for a good long drive, get some highway time 55mph+ just to make sure. Could be nothing more then the owner wants to get out from under it literally or monetarily

I did crawl under it and looks "factory" fresh.

Does my buddy need it ? That would be a NO....I brought that to his attention but he likes the look.

As for the lift, this is California, its all about......gotta have it NOW! Pay the most you could possibly pay just to have it now. Does any one need a Hummer? Does any one need a Hummer with 24" rims and low profile tires?

You guys are right though, this guy said he payed $7,000 to have that lift installed and for what? He sez he's a hunter but he takes his Ford diesel pickup with the 8" lift for that. Must take the place of a tree blind.
