06 LJ Rubicon questions

I am going to put a lift here pretty quick on my rubicon. I would like to keep the stock wheels if possible. If I put a 2.5 suspension lift how big of a tire can I go. If I go 3 inches will 33's fit? Please post pics . Thanks

255x85x16 or 285x75x16 will fit. You will need to add a couple washers to adjust your steering stops or the 285s.

To answer your question more accurately I would want to ask you how big of a tire do you want? You could get 40's with 3" of suspension lift if you wanted (you would need to do more mods then just lift it though).

If I had to do it all over again I would go with a much shorter lift, something like 3" and keep that low center of gravity and stuff huge tires under it.

Check out rokmen.com and look at their freak builds. They are LJ builds and are some of the best jeeps I have seen.

IMO you have one of the best platforms to build (I might be a little biased though) and my suggestion is to do it right the first time.

Good luck with your build. It is a lot of fun and you have so much that can be done. Enjoy!

33's are fit in two common ways on TJ's:

1. 4" suspension lift, with 2" bumpstop extensions in front and 2-2.5" in the rear. Usually requires a CV shaft.
2. 2.5" suspension lift, with a 1.25" body lift, with 1-1.25" bumpstop extensions in front and 1.25-1.5" in the rear. The 1.25" BL usually accompanies a 1" Motor Mount Lift to offset some of the driveline angles.

Either way you go, figure on some or many of the following components: longer front brake lines, extended sway bar links front and rear, gears, brake and steering upgrades to accommodate larger tires, CV shaft, bumpstop extensions, new shocks, adjustable track bars, and a rear track bar bracket.

there is no kit that includes every single thing you will need. it's up to you to do your homework and determine what your specific jeep needs...you figure out what your bumpstop requirements are, longer brake lines, etc...

Savvy Off-Road sells a pretty nice 3" kit:

Rubicon express superflex 7000-3 includes most parts at a 3.5" lift. You may need a longer rear drive shaft as well.

The more complete kits are usually more expensive.

I just installed the OME 2.5 HD on my 06 LJ Rubi, yesterday. I also used Rokmen one inch billet spacers on the front to compensate for the weight of my bumper and winch. I run Hankook 32 X 11.50 X 15 on my rig. I think it's the perfect set up for where I want to go. Very little "visual" difference between the 32's & 33's (tread pattern dependent). The OME came with the bump stop extensions for the rear. It does not appear the front ones need to be changed at this point. It has a great look, and gives me the lower center of gravity platform I wanted. I built mine like this for two reasons ~ It's how I wheel (nothing extreme / daily driver) and if I decide I want to go with bigger tires, my mods will be tube fenders, and not necessarily suspension.

While I was at it, I also installed a Currie Anti-Rock and changed out the track bar to a Currie JJS adjustable track bar.

I'm guessing you don't wheel or go off road with that set up. I found I could set 33's with no lift and even more so with a lift, but it was not going to go off road without creating some damage.

My little tires rubbed at full turn. This is a test fit of the new tires.
