12000LBS winch

I have a 12000lbs winch on the front of my TJ. I want to know how capable it is. So my question is, could I winch my jeep up a tree? with a tree protector of course. what could I hurt beside myself if the engine was not running. Has anybody attempted this feat before?

I've seen this done from time to time on youtube. If the winch has a 12,000 lb capacity it will be able to pick up your Jeep with no problem. I'm not sure what winching up a tree would prove, but I don't imagine it would hurt much if the engine is off.

What brand winch is it? Is your winch plate rated up to 12,000 lbs? If so you shouldn't have any problems unstucking even a relatively heavy TJ. Let me know if you have questions!

dont do that, for starters, its stupid and risky

yes, a 12k lb winch will be physically able to do it, there is just no point

you are taking something thats already risky and making it even worse. always use caution and safey when winching, this uses neither and is more like a "hey yall, watch this" type thing

The reason I want to do it, Is the parking officer always give me a parking ticket at 3 in the morning. He tickets the whole street every night. We all have nowhere to park and its a stupid by-law we are fighting it. I want to beat him at his game for just one night. I have a huge maple tree out front on my house and it is my property but I cant park normally on it because of the tree (which I'm not aloud to cut down.) So my plan was to go out at 2:30 put it up there and wait for him to look at it. say something witty to him and then take it down...

HA! Just make sure it's not a city tree so you don't get cited for damaging a city tree. That is a law in some areas...vandalism basically.
I personally would get a kick out of it but some LE types have no sense of humor.

This is an episode of "Rescue 911" waiting to happen. You'd be better off giving the guy a bottle of expensive booze to look the other way.

I have a 12K and it's a beast. How much is a parking ticket? How much will it cost if the tree, or the winch or the winch plate breaks and or hurts/kills you, the officer or bystander?????
Simply is not worth it!

Just watched the video as well. Make sure you watch part two. No way I would ever do this. That being said it is impressive to see a winch do that.

X2 on how old are you....

So if the tree is on your yard or property, why not just park in your yard or right up at your door to the house.
