14 Wides on a TJ?

I have 7 inches of lift on my 01 TJ. I currently run 4 inch Rough Country with a 3 inch body. I run 35 Hawgs, and a lot of people told me i wouldn't be able to run 12 wide rims, which i am doing now. Everyone said they would rub, i am thinking about taking them off and putting on some black 14 wide bead locks. Anyone know if they will rub on the links?

Nope, there is no rocks where i live, only nasty florida swamps. A lot of saw grass, and i dont know if you guys live in florida or not, but that stuff has no bottom, looking for maximum tread width at all times.

I run 42" X 14" X 17" IROKS on my Jeep.......what you are doing is past rediculous, not to mention the wear you will put on your axles. Don't even begin to assume something like my intelligence.

What size axles are you running?

Good for you, i never said anything about your intelegence, i assumed you couldn't help me because you weren't. I know about wear, but not worried about the axles, more about the bearings. As far as owning vehicles with big tires, I had a 98 Ram on 40 TSL's, I had an F-250 on 44 boggers, I also had a YJ on 40 Boggers, and 40 Hawgs, so i know what it will do, so dont assume anything about my intellegence. Its a simple question, i know what can happen, but all i am concerned with is an answer, yes or no.

If you have done all that to all those vehicles, you already know the answer, so what is the point? As long as your backspacing isn't more than 3.75"............you can put on what ever width of wheel you want. You know that though, don't you. If you want someone to agree with you, on doing this, or trying to make you feel more sane for doing it, I guess I am not the one today.

So in conclusion to this already insane thread.......Have a good day.

Don't worry about him, he is a little testy this time of the month... Plus he was born knowing all of this and can't be bothered to answer questions, so you can understand why he would be so upset about your post... Don't worry about it, but in the future, one thread on a subject will sufice, please don't crosspost. Good luck with your swamp running!

what is the width of the 35's you are running??? ...if it is 12.50 then i don't know if a 14" wheel will work...its wider than the tire and i've never heard of this done but i could be wrong

There's no way you'd run a 12.50 tire on a 14" wide rim. I'm sure he's looking at running 15.50 at least with what they are using them for. Mud and muck and even sand you want the biggest footprint you can have.

The 35" Hawgs only come in a 14" width. As 1BLKJP pointed out, he wants the biggest tire print for running the bogs. I was only trying to point out the fact that he would be snapping his stock axles like tooth picks, running rims that wide. But that is his choice, and I should not worry about that.

Im not gonna take sides here but bluviking is a smart dude and he knows his shit. He has helped me out every time i needed advice. On the other hand its your jeep and the beauty of this forum is to be able to get together and share ideas. As for me im very set on what i like in a jeep/offroad vehicle. I like medium size tires, tall not wide, small if any amount of lift and a neat clean look. I have 31/1050/15 with no lift and very few comsmetics. I think that these jeeps with huge lifts, fat tires, and chrome everywhere look stupid. If you want to put 8 inches of lift on a truck and run 44's you should buy a f350 or something, but thats my taste. Like i said before the purpose of this forum is to share facts and opinions. As for your jeep goes that wide of a tire is gonna put a wicked amount of stress on your axles. Plus you might be able to drive it to and from work but thats gonna be an adventure every time you start you jeep. There are to many factors to worry about with that wide of a tire but its your jeep bro, nobody has to like it but you and thats what counts. If i saw you on the road i might think your jeep was an ugly piece of crap but i would wave to you every time. You get the picture!!!!! There are no stupid questions ask these guys i ask them all the time.

ya, i agree with blu also...he answers questions to about every thread i post...along with a bunch of other people that have helped me very much...but a 35x14.50 on a 14" wide wheel is gonna make it stick out past the fender A TON!! definitely gonna need some new flares

No jeeperman, I do not know everything, and will be the first to admit it. I just try to do the research, as the world is at my fingertips. Everything one wants to know is available via the internet. That is how I learn, and can post good information. I will usually look it up before I reply to a post, to make sure I have the right information. So you can roll your eyes, all you want to, I just try to be accurate, as much as possible. I guess you could say that I take it too seriously, and should just rattle off whatever comes to mind. Or, the other option, not say anything. I have made amends to the one that started this post, and it should not affect me at all, if someone wants to tear up their stuff.

I run 12's myself.. no rub issues, just good bump stops and I have about 6.5" of lift. I would think as long as you got the correct backspacing to compensate for the wider rims and tire combo you should be okay.

I don't think any person should ever be flogged for a question, no matter if people agree or not. I do, however, think that people (all of us) should be more careful with our answers.

When I joined this forum, you could count on two hands how many threads there were. The one thing that really impressed me about WF as that the admin team stated that no person would ever be shunned for any question that was asked. The 'look it up' would not happen here.

I'm proud to be a member of the forum and proud of the company I get to keep with everyone here. I'm even more proud that as a mod, neither me or any of the mod team have had to ban a member of WF (not counting spammers). We have never had a serious issue, and with luck, it will remain that way.

Now, back to the topic.

You are very right, and that is the reason that this forum stands above all the others, IMO. Everyone has always been kind to me, and I should not have been as crass as I was. I have already apologized to the one that I offended, and will do it openly here, as I was in the wrong. It should not matter to me what the consequences are, for a simple question. I should have just said that I had never heard of anyone attempting such a thing, and left it alone. At first it was humorous, and then it went south. So to all, I apologize for not showing better form, and not extending a warm welcome to a new member.

Thanks, blu. I know what you mean about the humor going south. I usually use humor for almost all my posts, but it gets lost in translation when it can only be seen in black and white.

Yeah. I noticed that, too. It's predictable. big jeep has spent alot of time asking questions and learning, though. Pretty soon we'll have him capable of independent thought.

big jeep always has good humor. I like that!!
