17mpg on my LJ

I checked my MPG today for the first time. I know I know if I wanted good mileage I shouldnt have bought a Jeep. I was just wondering if 17 is the best I can do or is there anything I can do to improve this?

It has stock suspension and the tires are all terrain but not agressive at all. Its mostly hiway miles at 65 to 70 MPH. I know that kills tha milage. I have a 60 mile a day commute.

I get 22mpg in my 4x4 Ram 2500 quad cab CTD. It has a 3.5" lift and 35" NItto Terra Grapplers. I never thought I would need to drive that to save on fuel cost LMAO.

Better than I got when I had 285's. Yup my Dudge gets better by 2-4mpg even though it weighs almost 7500 empty. I ride (motorcycle) when I can then use truck if needed. Jeep is 3rd vehicle 'toy' for backup etc

Im fine with that if thats the best I can do. I was thinking I would only have to fiill up once a week but it looks like I wont quite make that.

I ride the Harley when its above 40 and dry out so that should help . I get 35mpg on that .

I made a longish trip on Monday, 130 miles, and managed 19mpg. I stayed around 60, and my 2002 is stock except for the 31" Duratracs. I usually get around 15-16 driving almost exclusively around town. Sounds to me like pretty average mileage.

I commute 100 miles a day and I can get 18-19 if I stay in the truck lane and not push it. I have been driving this TJ since it was brand new. You are doing fine and DO NOT believe any mods that will improve it. They are all a scam. Just ask the EPA that tests all the claims.

If I get 17 on my stock LJ Rubi, I consider that an awesome tank and I probably drove like a 90 year old.

I have a 98, 4.0 w/ abt 160K miles. I get similar milage in the winter with the hardtop, full doors and a back seat. In the summer with soft doors, a bikini top and no back seat, I get 18-20. On the highway, 18k to 22k rpms, no warm up or leaving it at idle to keep the cab warm. Details can have an impact on milage... fully inflated street tires, a weight loss program, synthetic oil and a light foot all help. No one factor makes a huge difference, but added together there can be some improvements.

Thats all I wanted to know if I was in the correct range. If I was getting 17 and everyone else was getting 22 then I would know something is up.

Sorry not a Prius kind of guy. My Harley gets worse mileage than a Prius but I would rather be on the bike or push my jeep.
