1998 tj 4 cylinder

I'm looking to buy a wrangler and am test driving a 98 tj 4 cyl. Tomorrow. Anyone have any advice on the 4cyl? This will be my first jeep so any help is appreciated. You can check out the one I'm test driving at this link. 1998 Jeep Wrangler

Well, I don't have any 4cyl specific recommendations, but just a general used car shopping checklist: check all the fluids, the brakes, noise / vibrations that seem unusual / excessive. Rust check- look for corrosion anywhere out of the way, pull up the carpet to look underneath, crawl under it with a flashlight to look forexcessive rust and fluid leaks.

Didn't see anything about an axle upgrade, so if that's a Dana 35 rear it's my understanding those 33's are about the upper limit of how large a tire one wants to run with that axle. (Dana 35 has a rubber fill cap). Also, might want to ask about the gears- if that is on stock 3.07 gears with those 33's it might be ok putting around town but inadequate for anything more than that.

Price seems a little highball to me for that year and mileage, but it does look like the owner has done some nice mods. My $0.02.

I have a 97 TJ with the 2.5L. Bought it with 350,000 kms and it runs like a top. Talking to jeep buddies and they all say that as long as you take care of them, change oil regularly, tune up yearly, usual things, that they will just keep running. I am very impressed with mine. Good luck!
