1998 Tj problems

my Jeep Tj is having some problems and i dont really know what they are considering im 16. Ever since i put it in 4WD for the first time the next day i would be going to school and all the sudden there would be a loud grinding noise and the Jeep would stall. It kinda sounded like it had something to do with 4WD but again im not sure. also there a leaking of red fluid which might be from when i got stuck driving up a mound of snow and ice one night. please help me if you know what these problems are. also if it matters my Tj is an Automatic.

Sounds like your tranny to me, you get under it and see where the fluid is coming from?

...trans, cooler, cooler lines from your trans youll have two lines to the trans cooler you need to determine where its leaking and how bad. Oh and as i would have to ask my kids just how hard did u hit the snow mound is these a chance u did some undercarrige damage causing something to drag?

thanks guys my dad thinks that the grinding noise might be a shot transfer case because my 4WD doesnt work anymore. any idea how much a new transfer case would cost me?. As for the leaking i have yet to figure out where its coming from. it used to leak just a tiny bit but ever since i hit that snow mound its been leaking like a stuck pig. but thanks for the advice

Prob pretty expensive.
Why dont you try a jeep salvage place or a place like Jeepsareus or daveysjeep who sell used parts for your jeep.
