Hi all - wondering if I could get some help on this one...
After driving through some snowbanks, I had a huge iceball form under my Jeep... unfortunately it attached itself to this hose that is now dangling... You can see the hose hanging down in the 1st pic. It looks like it attaches to the hose in the 2nd pic. My problem is I can't identify what the second hose goes into... is it the starter? I can't imagine a hose coming out of the starter like that. Anyway - any suggestions would be appreciated.
I should probably be able to identify what it attaches to, but I have searched as many service manuals as I could with no luck so far. Jeep is running fine with no issues since I discovered it.

Looks like breather hose maybe for the transmission? That hose on your starter is normal. That's not where it came from. It could also be the transfercase breather as well.

Edit: after looking at your photo some more and the length of the hose I would say transfercase breather.

Alright-thanks rubicon2 - I'll check the manual and see if it is there...

I would check to see if it came off from the transfercase. Look in your repair manual to see where the breather hose for transfercase comes out at. Most likely the high point on the tcase. I can't really tell but looking at the second picture again and I'm not sure that is your starter. The starter has battery cables running out of the back off it and it kind of looks like a starter but doesn't. lol

Alright--I think I got it - based on your posts, which I sincerely appreciate, it looks like the mystery hose is the vent hose for the transfer case... here is my dilemna - where does the dangling end actually go? Should I just tuck it up safely out of the way? Does it plug into some sort of filter? The manual I have has a nice drawing of the vent hose, but it only shows the end that is still connected to the transfer case...
I assume I should zip tie it off out of sight and out of mind?

Thanks again for all of your suggestions - you guys are the best!

all that hose does is to let your tc vent pressure....you want it up high so that if you traverse water it wont let water into the TC. Same on your axle pumpkins.
