Alright so I just got the Dynomax super turbo cat back exhaust kit, and I have the older version of the TJ so the muffler is connected to the cat with a muffler clamp. How "difficult" is this to remove (i.e. Any cutting?). it looks as if I could just get the clamp off, it isnt too badly corroded, and then slip the muffler off of the cat pipe, is it really this simple? Any tips and/or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Its not as easy as it looks.

The clamp actually bends/forms the pipes together. You may be able to get the clamp off easily, but then separating the pipes becomes a challenge. It can be done, but be prepared to fight it. If it was me, I would cut the pipe where the clamp is and remove the old exhaust, then clamp on the new one on in place. Then, go get it welded.

I just replaced mine with a Banks on my 97 TJ from New England (we have a lot of road salt in the winter) I cut the U bolt off with a 4" angle grinder and used a little persuasion from a BFH and a good pry bar and was able to get it to slide out on the cat side, since all the pipe got replaced from the Muffler back I just cut it in 3 pieces so that it would come out nice and easy without worrying about having to twist and slide it this way and that. Getting the pins out of the rubber hangers seemed to be the toughest part for me. I used a pry bar and a screwdriver I'm sure there are easier ways though for that part.

I ended up using a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to cut the remaining pipe the whole length of the piece and I put a flathead screw driver into the cut part to just pry the piece off of the cat pipe. The whole installation went pretty smoothly and it sounds badass

Just wanted to share, a buddy of mine and I did an acceleration test with my stock muffler, it took 34.6 seconds for 0-60 mph (manual transmission) after I installed the Dynomax super turbo muffler we did the same test and it took 23.8 seconds for 0-60. Thought that was purdy significant that it made that much of a difference.

i need to do this install as well

now that i realized after i cut muffler out that my cat is bad.

not to hijack the thread, but i dont have a check engine light or anything so i am apprehensive to go replacing the cat, any downside to just running a pipe from the cat and deleting the muffler? already passed inspection for the year...
