2.4/2.5 4 banger longevity

I know they get good mpg, but how good? If I buy one used with about 70 80k miles how long can it last me if I treat it right?

I've heard of 4 bangers with 300k miles on it. Mines a '98 with just over 90k and the only thing I've replaced on it is the clutch and that was only because I was forced to drive through very deep water on the way home from school one day in a freak storm. It's a very strong reliable engine.

Good solid engine all around, only suffers in the power department. I have never heard of a 4-banger owner complain about its endurance. I know I have a YJ, but they really don't differ too much in the TJ models. I have 210,000 miles on mine and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. Be good to it, and it'll be good to you.

They are not better on gas mileage than the 4.0. Has to work harder to keep up. For offroading the engine is capable. My engine was rebuilt at 160,000 miles. Jasper rebuild. Running strong at 243,000 miles.

I guarantee my 4 cylinder gets better gas mileage than your six cylinder. I average over 19 mpg driving in stop and go traffic in the heart of fort worth. I don't have high mileage yet but will in due time. Not sure what your six gets but I doubt it's 19+. If u have 4.11 gears, the jeep does not work hard at all and my acceleration is great. I would not by a 4 banger that doesn't have 4.10/4.11

I have a 2.5 and get in the range of 15 mpg. 31" tires 2 inch lift.
