2.5 Liter Exhaust Options

I've been reading a lot of threads about exhaust but I can't really find any about the 2.5 liter. I like how a loud vehicle sounds but in a jeep, I think it will sound really loud cuz I'm driving a tin can.

Does anyone have exhaust on their 2.5 liter? If so, what do you have and how do you like it? And if you don't mind, how much was it?

I installed the pacesetter header and cat back system and its been awsome in my opinion.Makes the 2.5 sound nice and deep for a 4 banger, instead of loud and anoying.I inatalled maybe 6 years ago and still no problems.Cant remember exact cost but the system was really afordable.Really not bad to install did my own in about 4-6 hours taking things out and putting them back.

A SS borla system is like $500. My jeep came with it, and im eventually getting rid of it. It sounds good, if youre interested ill keep you in mind.

About 2-3 weeks ago I welded on a Thrush Welded muffler to my 2.5L and love it....especially since it was only $35. Best $35 spent on the Jeep. Some say its a clone to a Flowmaster 40. The sound is low and slighly hollow, but not obnoxious like a ricer glasspack.

I was thinking about doin that until I get enough to buy a full system.. Where did you get that from?

I bought it from a local BAXTER Auto parts store. Part #17651. I also bought a small section (~10 inches) of 2 1/4" exhaust pipe for about $6. (oem muffler is longer than the Thrush)

Dropped the skid, Unscrewed O2 sensor, cut out the old muffler with a sawsall. Welded in the new muffler, cut the 2 1/4" x 10" inch pipe down to size and welded that to the muffler outlet and the oem tail pipe. Screwed O2 sensor back in, replace skid.

I added a rugged ridge catback system to my 2.5L and it definitely helped with the horsepower along with my tire change and the K&N air filter. It sounds deeper but not overly loud. Before the catback and the K&N and the tire change I could barely hit 70, now I can do 75 no problem. I dont know which made more of the difference the exhaust or the tire change but Im glad it did because now I can drive on the freeway and not be worried about being run over by a semi. Cat-back exhaust was about $300 (not stainless).

Dextreme. Why did you choose the center inlet and side outlet?? What's the difference between that and the side in, center out?

I need to find an exhaust. I currently have a magnaflow the PO installed. I noticed its cracked so I need to find one in the bear future.
I was looking online today and found a Magnaflow Off Road Pro Series that actually shortens the length and instead of coming out at the rear of jeep.... It comes out in front of rear tire.
Which basically means u won't bend it or anything when off roading. I bent my tip last time.
Here's a link but u can just YouTube it and see other cars running it. I like it, might get it.

Mine is all the original exhaust system (rust and everything) & the muffler is punctured. Should i change the whole system or is it ok to just change the muffler?

I agree with her a lil bit. If you have the money, just change the whole thing. But if ur like me (on a highschool budget) just change the muffler like I am

Not broke but on an EXTREMELY limited budget LoL... And since I am saving for my First set of new tires ever it makes choosing the work to do on her (YJ) so much harder.

I simply went with the same way the oem muffler was installed. This is the exact one I installed. Still very very happy with it. Dynomax 17651 Thrush Welded Mufflers by Thrush Mufflers

Dextreme. Can I see a pic of what ur muffler looks like? So I can show my dad that it won't be all ghetto rigged like he says it will be. And did you weld all the way around the piping?

Question. Is the 2.5L engine from a TJ the same as the one on a 92 YJ?

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure. Unless the 92 one is carborated which it shouldn't be

I swapped a muffler out on my yj because the Gibson cat back kept blowing tac welds. Clamped on a generic flowmaster and it was good to go...until I blew out my my catalytic converter and had to fish pieces of it out of my exhaust. However, if you go online you should be able to find an aftermarket muffler with roughly the same length and inlet/outlet dimensions from most manufacturers, after that you can use the clamps to install and you will be fine. It will, however, sound like a civic, my yj was a 94' 2.5 (which is exactly the same as a 97' 92's were slightly different in fuel delivery and less reliable as such...sorry mickeyj) and the sound was cool at first, then annoying, then embarrassing.
