2.5 Q's

What is the horsepower rating on a stock 2.5 4 banger? And for you guys with bone stock TJ's with a 2.5 5-speed, what MPG's do you get?

Ha, Joe's 4Banger with 37's and 6.13's puts out a whopping 61 HP to the rear wheels.

15!? Serisiouly? I thought they got at least 20 easily. For a 2.5 it should be better than 15 while stock.

the 2.5 produces around 121 HP at about 5400 rpm's. Fuel economy deppends on variables such as how big your tires are and how you drive. A 2.5 tj on stock 215/75/15's driven economically should give you around 20 mpg. As for me i have a 2.5 with 215/75/15 bfg all terrains and i like to get the most out of the engine so i dont drive very economically at all and i get about 18 mpg average...

I have 2000 Jeep Wrangler with 2.5L with 5 Speed. I am running 31x10.5 on it. I average about 19 miles to the gallon. Of course I was not worried about milage when I bought the Jeep.

I get around 15 mpg city driving. When I had the stock tires & wheels on, I got 20 mpg highway, about 18 city.

I figger the horsepower has to be somewhere around 50.

5400 rpm's ???? I don't get it much over 3000 without getting scared it'll start grenading....

What's the point of redlining ? Seeing how far you can push the engine 'til it breaks ?

When would I, in real world application, have a need to redline my engine ?

Please explain.

With all my moods (intake, exhaust, bored out throttle body, short shifter...etc) there is lots of more power up there to get you in front of the traffic and the feeling u get from the force of acceleration is just so sweet.

So how often are you bouncing off the rev limiter?

I got over 25mpg with my stock tires, and a CAI. O yeah, and I hit close to 5500 RPM the other night before I raced my friend in his Honda. I won. Later when we were on the freeway my speedometer said 65mph, but I was losing my friend and he said he was going 90mph! Guess I need to yell at Quadratec some more until they send me the new speedo gear after 3 months.

Interesting. My shift light comes on at ridiculously low RPMs, telling me when to shift for maximum fuel economy. If I paid attention to that stupid little light, I'd be doing 25 MPH in 5th gear with Granny passing me in her wheelchair cussing me out.

I ditched that shift light years ago. It is now powering the lighting behind my HVAC controls.

Yes but if you step on it it shuts off at like 2500 or so and then it turns on again right before redline, try it sometime
