2.5 to a 4.3 vortec

I have been looking to do a 4.3 swap into my 1997 jeep wrangler 2.5 4 cyl. Anyone have suggestions on best/cheapest parts? Or possibly even a different swap? I don't have too much money to spend on this project, just wanna put something in it that has a little more balls then the 4cyl.

Thanks, Zach

First go to the Novak web site and you will see what it takes. You can save a lot of money buying a used bellhousing and other parts. I just got a V8 for my swap and will use mostly Novak parts to make the swap. You will need engine mounts, bellhousing, clutch parts, a transmission to belhousing adapter, slave and master cylinder. Computer and wiring harness with the engine you decide to buy. The web site will give you an idea what you will need.

Cheapest route will be to sell the Jeep and buy a different one with the 4.0L. There are no cheap and easy plug-n-play conversion options.

Typically for a conversion you can plan on a $1000+ motor/tranny...then $3K+ more on stuff to complete it (if you do it yourself).

Why couldn't you pull a 4.3 out of a s10 4x4 with and use the s10 tranny and transfer case and ecm and wire harness ?

LOL

If there comes a point where you can experiment/toy with such a swap, the previous posters gave some sound advice; Novak is a great resource, check them out.

That's what I'm going to do to mine whenever the four gives up the ghost, if I ever get time! The GM auto has overdrive plus lower gears, the transfer case chain is slightly wider too. I already have the complete drive train, but I have several other projects in front of it, so it will be a while before I get around to it. The four does what I need it to do, so I'm not rushed. I do mostly woods crawling with it, so the four is more than enough for now.
