2.5 Whining

When it gets cold there is a whining while accelerating. It starts low and then it will stop after it shifts and then starts again. It does not do it at idle and the trans fluid looks good and is not burnt.
Any help would be good. It is an automatic.

Today it was about 20 degrees and it was making noise. Later it was 48 out and was noise free. What could it be? U joints are good, and the differentials are full.
