2.5L durability?

My "New to me" 4cyl Jeep has 100k miles on it right now. I know that with the 4.0L's 100k is just getting started but what about the 2.5Ls? Have you guys seen many people get past the 200-250k mark with a 2.5L? When do they typically die off? What are some common problems with them? And lastly, is it a good idea to use Synthetic oil in this engine or should I stick with the dinosaur variety? 4 quarts with the filter right? Thanks guys!

My 04 has 65K and I fully expect to get 200-250. My yj has well over 200 and it is still running strong when I gave it to a realitive in 04. It did not have one engine problem. The tj should have 150k by now but I started to car pool with a couple of co workers so it sat a lot instead of running 100 miles a day.

I change the oil & filter every 3k, no exceptions. it only cost me 17-20 bucks so why waste the money on synthetic. Clean oil is better that oil with a lot of dirt suspended in it.

My personal opinion after 40 years in the automotive business.

the 4 will truck on about the same as the 6. The one issue I recall was certain early year's had was a manifold bolt busting off. Other than that change the oil and regular service and it should be fine for a while.

My 2000 has 141,000 on it and is still running great. I've kept it serviced and have only had to replace the clutch as any sort of major work. Keep an eye on the valve cover as over time the gasket gets old and the cover is loose. Enjoy your jeep their so much fun.
