2" BB, 31" Tires Advise

I am a new member and first I would like to thank all for all your posts. This is a great forum with a lot of information which is a lot of help for all since we share at least one interest - JEEP's.

Just purchase my first Jeep, a 2002 TJ, 5 speed, all stock. I will pickup the TJ in a couple of days, can not wait. Presently it has Canyon wheels 15 X 8 and 30" All Terrain Goodyear Wranglers. I would like to do a 2" BB and 31 X 10.5 X 15 BFG KM2 using the same OEM wheels. This TJ has a Dana 30 front and 44 rear with a 3.73 ratio.

Here are some of the options that I am considering:

1. I know that if a install a 2" BB I also would have to do a TC drop or MML, I think the MML is preferable is this correct?

If I do a MML do I have to do a 1" BL also?

2. 2" BB and 1" BL with a MML - will this be too much for 31 tires (tires will look small)?

When you do a BL will this affect the shifter mechanism?

What do you recommend?

I did a 2" BB with 31's. didn't need a tc drop. Looks great like it sits, no vibrations.

You shouldn't need a TC drop with a 2in BB. If you go with a BL and MML though it should look fine. Just do some searching for 31s and 3in of lift to get an idea.

I wouldn't buy the MML and BL until you get you BB on and drive it to find any vibrations. I have a 2.5 in. BB and I didn't need an TC drop or MML but every Jeep is different.

I agree. Get the BB on and drive it. 2" looks great with 31's and you won't likely need MML or Transfercase drop. If you do happen to get a some light driveline vibes, just a few washers between the skid and frame will smooth it out.

They are the reverse-a-bars from quadratec. I used to have them flipped up but I swapped them over this way about a week ago. I like them better this way. Makes it easier for the wife and kids to get in and out. I like the looks better as well.

I agree, looks great! I need something for the lady and I to get in easier as well. Was looking for an alternative to Nerf Bars.

You can look in my profile to see 2" BB w/ the BL (OME kit) on 31's. Looks fine, but I'll be getting 33's.

Old Man Emu (OME) or Zone/BDS. Get a new steering stabilizer too.

I'd go with the jks 1.25 inch body lift and a brown dog 1" rubber motor mount lift.

NO TCASE DROP
NO DEATH WOBBLE

This will leave the stock suspension geometry and leave you with a good ride. Your center of gravity will also be lower than the guys running a 2" spring lift.

On a side note, you can get a high clearance skid if funds allow.

Someone started a thread on here called "side steps for 2000 TJ". I have some pictures of them on facing up and the way they mount to the frame if you are interested.

I read that when go over 2" lift you need to adjust or replce the track bar because your differential will shift. That is one of the reasons I want to stay at 2" lift. This Jeep will be my DD so I can not get to crazy. I think I will go with the 2"BB drive it and see what happens.

When you say "add a few whashers between the skid and frame will smooth it out. " you mean the TC skid plate correct? like if you were doing a TC drop.

2" BDS, no BL or MML, and no Transfer case drop. All is fine on my 32's.....

i dont have any lift right now and i been running 31s for over a year, but im getting a 2" bb to get some 32s
