Jeep: 1998 Jeep TJ Wrangler 2.5l 4 inch short arm full traction stock steering with leaking power steering box. So about 2 weeks ago I noticed a tiny 1-2 second wobble when taking a turn, and immediately thought death wobble. I looked under and every thing seemed fine. It hasn't happened until today. I was going down a paved bumpy back road and when I would hit a bump it would wobble for 5+ seconds then go away until I hit the next bump. I got under and noticed when my wheel was being turned that the trac bar move when It was turned side to side. I don't know how to explain it very well so work with me. It would move on the frame mount not the axle mount. I took out the cotter pin and made sure the nut was tight. I couldn't move it (so still loose) time for a new trac bar? I also checked the joints on the axle and the driver side would move a very tiny bit barely any movement. Could that be the problem? I also checked control arms and the driver side LCA was tight but I was able to tighten it a half turn. Then I drove it and it seemed fine when turning the wheel side to side. But the thing is the wobble is started by bumps not speed. In addition the wobble is not violent like a true death wobble. Its like a small wobble but something you can definately feel. I do have steering wheel slack and it is not aligned yet either. Just figured I post here to hear your thoughts. Any info on that would be awesome

My other problem is not so severe but more pestering. Under a year ago I got a check engine light. It was due to a bad gas cap. Fair enough so I changed it. Now its back. In my other thread someone said they went through 3 caps in 2 month. That seems very weird. I'm wondering if there is a possibility there is an underlying issue?Maybe the hose going from fuel cap to tank has a leak? Or maybe a leak at the tank where the hose connects to the tank?
It was a P0442 code.

Any info will be great.

Get one from Napa or whatever parts store you shop at. The $30.00 off the shelf damper is plenty good . Buying good shocks you can see a difference, but not with a steering stabilizer.

So it is not worth buying a full traction stabilizer. Ok I will look into that I have AutoZone Kragen and napa nearby so I'll go take a look. I was reading around the internet and came upon a write up that describes the steering as a 'shimmy' which is exactally what it's like. Thanks for you help. If the stabilizer doesn't do the trick anything else you suggest I look into?

The only other thing I can think of is a front end alignment.

You said that the trac bar moved when it was inside the mount so maybe new trac bar bushings could help with that

Yeah if I can get a bushing for it. It's a full traction trac bar. I called full traction & went to the nearby 4 wheel parts and they are unable to get the bushing for me....maybe if it take it off and bring it to a auto store (napa Kragen AutoZone) they can get one for me? 4 wheel parts said best thing to do is buy a new trac bar but that's cash that I dont have at the moment. I could also check the local jeep graveyard and maybe get lucky on one. Thanks for the input!
