2" Lift Questions

I am getting ready to put a 2" lift on my Jeep. I want to go bigger but the recon is a b%^& here in Hawaii where I am stationed. But my questions are I got the springs and shocks, do I need track bars for the front and rear with the 2" lift. And if anyone knows anything else that I am going to need to complete it let me know too.

nope just springs and shocks, if you find that you have vibes or something else that isnt right come back here and ask, and we will be able to tell you what you will need. there are plenty of people that only run BB's and new shock so i dont see why new springs instead of BB's would be different

Spend $30 for a set of spring compressors (or better yet, borrow some). It will save you time and busted knuckles, well worth $30. Also get shocks that are valved for a Jeep. Its not just 2" longer shocks. Shocks valved for a truck or something heavy will make the Jeep ride like crap.

I heard that you can use a lift to take the springs out. You just unbolt everything and then lift up the whole jeep and then put the new ones in. Is this true? I've been looking at a set up trac bars for it on ebay and ones going to ship them to my parents house in PA when I fly home and then put them in my luggage so that I'll save about 100.00 in shipping. Is there any chance that my stock track bars won't allow the axles to be centered?

i think that autozone rents spring compressors for like $5 I would try a place like that first, then your not messing with all of that

and yes there's a chance, but i've never heard of it so its very slim, otoh all jeeps are differenet and it would suck to fid out you actaully do need it after you get home

you can use a bottle jack between axle and frame to get springs out.

chances are that your axle will be a little off center.

i have a 2" coil lift and my rear axle isn't centered perfectly...i can tell it sticks out farther on one side...no big deal though

How is the front? Does it align side to side with the 2" springs on it?

Trust me. I tried it without the spring compressors when I had a 2" and you want the compressors. Afterwards you will need an alignment. Autozone does a free rental. You deposit the full cost and get it all back if you return them, or you can keep them for the deposit price. Good luck.

With the stock track bar in the front does the axle sit centered on the chassis or is going to be pulled to the one side?

It will sit fairly centered with such a small lift. Don't worry about it unless you go taller.

I did a 2" lift and my front is aligned just fine. My back is a little off though. I've never measured it, but I'd guess its off about an inch. I've been debating the rear trac bar relocation bracket but I'm not sure how much that will change it, and if it will change it too much the other way.

For now I ride around a bit crooked, doesn't seem to cause any major problems.

I'm towards the end of a 2" lift. '06 "X" SWB. My rear axle and front both moved about 1/2" (opposite directions).

I don't have a clue as to how much that affects your ride. But I installed adj track bars. One more round of adj and I ought to be dead-nuts on.

front isn't bad...its the rear axle thats noticeably uncentered...

you don't need the compressors if you use the bottle jack...trust me...i put on the lift.

who's trac bar and can you re use them when you go to a bigger lift

u dont need any special tools to do a lift. Just disconnect the sway bar, and tracbar and let the axle droop to the floor. Stock springs fall right out. I put in my 4 inch springs with 2 inch spacers, and everything slipped in, then put a jack under the differential and raise the axle and bolt everything back up. Basic sockets and wrenches can get the job done. Oh, and some jack stands and a big jack
