2000 4.0 engine swap

My engine is going to need to be rebuilt in the next couple months and I did some research on if it would be cheaper to just swap an engine from another jeep into it. My question is that since my 2000 doesnt have any plugs or coil do I need to go with the same or newer year engine or can I just swap my parts onto any 4.0 jeep engine? Do I have to stay with a wrangler or can I take one from a cherokee? Any help/suggestions are much appreciated.

i hope this might help..... the ones for 99 and older are really easy since the cherokees used them from 91-99.5....you can pickup those 91-97 cherokees for a few hundred bucks or the same with 93-98 Grand cherokees....4.0L engines....

I have a 1999 Sahara TJ automatic.

You would need to verify this information is applicable to your 2000

Don't forget the ECM has to taken into consideration when you're swapping. You need to match the motor to your ECM or you need an ECM to match your new motor.
BTW the 2000 and newer do have plugs.
