2000 wrangler bikini top question

I have a 2000 wrangler that has both factory hard and soft tops. Both utilize the hold down clamps to attach the front end of the tops to the top of the windshield. There is no channel for the front edge to the soft top to slide into it is clamps down on the rubber weatherstripping that is glued to the top of the windshield. I bought a bikini top that needs to have the channel installed to slide the front plastic edge into. My question, if I install the windshield channel to the top of the windshield it will have to be placed where the existing rubber weatherstripping is. Am I supposed to remove that weather strip (it is attached with adhesive) before attaching the channel and won't it destroy it? If I do it appears neither of the factory tops will fit tightly when I try and use them again. Any suggestions?

With the bestop bikini header you leave the weatherstripping in place.

I bought a bikini top from Rampage, are all the channels interchangeable? does it attach in front of or behind the weatherstripping?
