If you have the switch that comes off of the steering column, here is a link to a write up on fog light switch repair BUT it details how to remove the multifunction/wiper stalk.

One thing you may want to consider - don't know the spec on a 2001 - is intermittent wipers from the later models.

My '97 didn't have intermittent wipers, but the controller/stalk from the later models plugged straight in and presto, intermittent wipers.

Weird it works for me. Basically what it entails is removing the top half and bottom half of the steering column covers. You'll need some Torx screwdrivers or bits that you use in a ratchet to complete the job.

Use a Phillips screw driver to remove the screws from the underside of the steering column. I'm not sure if there are two or four but you'll see them when you look at the under side. The covers should then split apart and you'll be able to see the multi-function module with the turn signal stalk on the left and wiper stalk on the right. There are two small torx screws on top holding it in and I believe two electrical connectors. The electrical connecters have red locking tabs you slide to one side to unlock them so you can remove the switch. Pop those out a voila hopefully your multi-function switch is now in your hands.

Note of caution: unhook the negative cable from your battery so you don't accidentally set off your airbag while working around the steering column.
