I recently got water in my transmission while weeling. Iv dropped the pan twice and changed the filter but the fluid still has some pink to it. I want to flush it myself at home and need some advice. Im pretty sure all you do is disconnect the hose hat goes from the trans. to the cooler while in the jeep is running in nuetral and let it pump all the old fluid out into a bucket while adding new fuid at the same time. Anything else I need to know?

Have done it on my 2000 a couple of times and also once on a friend of mine's 2000. Take the cooler line loose from the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side and put a short piece of hose on the barb at the radiator, maybe 12 or 18 inches long and dump into a 5 gallon bucket. The complete flush will take about 12 quarts of ATF+4 and then an additional 2 to 3 quarts to top it off once you are finished so I usually by 16. I also usually get my son to help me. Place the Jeep in neutral with the engine off. Remove the dipstick and have a tranny funnel ready. Start the engine and fluid will begin to pump into the bucket (pump does not run in park). Usually about the time it takes me to take a cap off of a bottle and pour in the funnel, it's time for another. You don't have to rush. Usually 12 quarts will flush the tranny and converter. Then after 12 quarts, I continue to watch the stream and when the flow begins to slow down, shut the engine off. Reinstall the cooler line, top off to the proper level and you should be good.

Sounds like you got it in time. My tranny guy said I got lucky with mine also. Happened about 2 1/2 years ago and the fluid looked like a strawberry milkshake. He said many times water will steam the lining off of the clutches. Drove it 60 or 70 miles home looking like that and sounding like a bad power steering pump. Have another 50K on it since then and almost at 200K on the motor and tranny now. From what I've read on here, some folks aren't as fortunate as we have been.
