Question 2001 wrangler car seat trouble

We are trying for baby #2 and I would like my jeep to be more kid friendly. 2004 jeeps so Ive heard have better car seat latch systems. Can I chuck my 01 seat and install a later seat model? Any other kid-friendly suggestions? This is not a commuting vehicle but I do take my son in it to the store and everything. With 2 kids I know I'll have my work cut out for me getting them in and out of the car but I'm not lazy, I can do it! Any suggestions besides getting a new car? (i have a cherokee too)

The latch system that you are talking about on the newer TJ's is actually on the floor, so a new seat wouldn't help. I have a 97 TJ with my niece's car seat in the back. We have it installed with the seat belt and then the latch system hook on the car seat we hooked to one of the footman loops on the floor in the cargo area. It is sturdy and doesn't move. She's 2 1/2 and in a forward facing seat though. She didn't ride in my jeep but maybe once when she was an infant and I can't remember how I had the seat in there. Also, I think you can have the latch system installed in older vehicles at the dealer. Not 100% sure on that though.

I have an '02 and I have my 1 1/2 year old forward facing on the passenger side. There is no LATCH on the actual rear seats of any of the '06 and earlier models from what I've been told. There is a Top Teather Anchor behind the seat closest to the tailgate. If you have your owner's manual it will also tell you where it is. The little loop anchors closest to the seat are not for the top teather. I also use the seatbelt to anchor the car seat in. I don't have any issues. The baby loves it. We've been off-road already. Keep in mind that my little one is also the size of a 3 year old so he has no issues holding his head up as many are concerned with when off road. I put the biggest carseat on the market (I think) an Evenflo Synfany 65 back there and have pleanty of room. It rates up there with the fancy Britax's. Might I also suggest getting a Spiderweb Shadecage. Look them up at www.spiderwebshade.com. It's like one of those safari cages, but is not webbed, more like a screened in look. Can use it with the top up or down and it shades the little one as well as keeps all his stuff from being tossed out of the Jeep. I leave mine on, I have clear plastic in the back so it adds some sun-block and security. I think I'm babbling now.

My 06 has car seat teather places on the back seat. They are little metal bars on the outside edges of the seat & two more in next to the release latch for the seat belts. The top teather is in the rear cargo area. I used these for car seats on both sides.

I have a 99, and 2 kids. Both are in forward facing seats, and I use the seat belts to secure them in place. I just hook 'em up, put all my weight on the car seats, take out all the slack in the seat belts, and they don't go anywhere! I have the kids in the Jeep with me damn near every day, and I've never had a problem.

Brokejeep....Do you know what year they started with those seats b/c like Jeepfmily I'd consider buying one of those. I'm assuming I'd have to get updated brackets....

No I don't. This is my first Jeep. The last Jeep I was around was my buddy's 78 cj-5. I bet someone on here knows.

They installed them starting in '02. I also want to see if I can get the LATCH on my '01.

I have an 02 and the only mount per the owners manual is for the top tether. I use the seatbelt in conjunction with that. If there is a dealer retro fit I'd love to know as long as it doesn't empty the bank account.

Wow thanks for all the advice I am so grateful to hear other parents with wranglers. My friends are giving me a hard time. Are any of your wranglers lifted? Is this safe with a kid (or possibly 2 someday) in the car? Here are my specs to help:
R.E 4.5" Rubicon Express Long Arm Lift
Super Dana 44 axles w/Detroit Locker
Front Dana 30 PowerTrax Locker
4.88 Gears
Goodyear MTRs
...4:1 Transfer Case Upgrade
2-L Transfer Case Upgrade
Heavy Duty Steering Upgrade
Tom Woods Rear Driveshaft
Rear Disk Brake Upgrade
Patriot 9500 Winch
Quick Ratio Shifter
MORE 1" Motor Mounts
Diff Covers with Drain Plugs
Hi-Lift Jack
Lockable Storage
Rear Shock Relocation Kit
Custom Bumpers
Rims/Tires/Skids, who knows what else...

Some of this is unrelated but I had it typed out in a speadsheet so I didnt wanna retype.

Is there anything about this jeep (see picture in my profile) that is unfit to take on the road with kids to the store or to the gym etc (i have a cherokee for family expeditions but use this for lil trips round town) Be honest.

Thanks you all are so helpful!

My first is due in one month and I'm nervous about it as well. The jeep has very good safety ratings from what I've heard. Plus not many vehicles have a rollbar. I would be so depressed if I had to get rod of it!

We and my wife had our first a little over 2 months ago, I can't believe how fast it's gone by. Anyways my daughter first rode in my Jeep when she was like 2 weeks old. I just used the seatbelt on her base and I put my knee in it and took out ALL the slack and she doesn't move at all. Not even when I go up the curb to park in the grass at my house. I'm gonna get a ratchet strap and attach it to to back of the base and hook it to the floor where the jack goes just because I'm paranoid about her flipping up if I were ever to roll the Jeep. I drive like a grandma In my Jeep. If I wanna drive fast that's why I have an 86 Chevy C10 with a 450 hp big block :-)
Anyways main point is Jeeps+babies=no worries.

Just a random tip. Most fire fighters are trained to install car seats and they are generally very helpful if you just stop by the station with the car seat. In short if you have questions and are worried about the safety just stop by your local fire station and see what they have to say.
