Question 2002 Wrangler Blowing Flasher Relay

I have a 2002 Wrangler X 4.0 and everytime I push the 4 ways flashers it smokes my flasher relay. I replaced the turn signal multi-switch, and one parking light socket that was a bad connection. I have turn signals but don't dare touch the 4 way flashers. No fuses have blown yet, just smokes the flasher relay. Is there a relay under the hood that could be hanging that could cause this or has it got to be a dead short somewhere? Checked my trailer wiring and it all seemed solid so I don't know where to go from here? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

ahhh just went through this nightmare. I ended up replacing my multi function switch, flasher relay, and the fuses. There is fuse 13 in the fuse box there is also fuse 9 that is in the power distribution center under the hood. This is for the hazard switch side of the wiring, if this is blown it may back feed. If that is not it then it may be a short somewhere in the system. The only thing that will throw you off is that the hazard wiring uses most of the turn signal wiring except for the switch and the power supply. I also still have not tried my four ways since I got my turn signals back, but my turn signals work and that is all that I cared about.

I replaced the turn signal/hazard/fog switch a couple months ago since the foglights would always stay on. Recently, I turned the hazards on, and now all hazards and turn signals do not work. Sounds like what happened to you guys. All fuses are OK.

I'm having trouble locating the flasher relay on my 2002 Wrangler Sport (I ordered it new in Oct. 2001). It's not under and to the right of the steering column like the picture of a 97 that I found online, and it's not directly behind the switch like a picture of a 2005 that I found online. I do see one relay in the underhood box that looks like it might be, but it could just be some other relay.

Flasher relay

I found the relay switch up on TOP of the steering column. You have to take off Three different pieces just to see it. The bottom piece below the steering column and the piece where the key goes in. Then that allows you to take off the top piece and see the Flasher relay. Good luck. I never found the short or whatever was wrong. I traded the 02 Wrangler for a 2010 Unlimited Wrangler. The dealership nicknamed my 02 Smokey!
