2002 Wrangler Dealer Brochure Info

I just got a 2002 Wrangler dealer brochure, which has the specs and options for the full line of X, SE, Sport and Sahara and I have some questions.

The brochure says the Saharas got body-colored fender flares but says nothing about the flares being wider. Looking at the flares on my Sahara they appear to be about an inch or so wider than the pictures in the brochure show on the red Sport they have on page 1.

Were the fender flares on the Saharas wider than the Sport/X/SE?

Also the brochure shows you can order the optional Convenience Group on the SE and Sport which gives you additional interior lights, underhood light, and a full console but you had to also order the optional 7-speaker sound system to get the Convenience Group. But, the list of standard features on the Sahara does not include the Convenience Group but does include the 7-speaker sound system as standard equipment on Saharas. So did all the Saharas also get the Convenience Group? Mine has it but I am thinking all Saharas got the Convenience Group since all Saharas got the 7-speaker sound system.

The 2002 brochure makes no mention of available rear axle disc brakes on any of the Wranglers. Was that a post-2002 option?

And the 2002 brochure states that ABS is not available if you select the optional Dana 44 axle but I seem to recall some Wranglers with ABS and Dana 44, was that also a post-2002 combination? The 2002 brochure states that you can order a Dana 44 only with the Sport and Sahara.

I also learned the Sahara was available in just four (white, black, green maroon) of the ten exterior colors in 2002, I did not know that.

Thanks for clearing these up for me.

I suspect that you are imagining rather than recalling.

Rear disc brakes were never an option on any TJ model.

In 05 they started to offer rear disc brakes on certain models only as a option. My friend has them on his 05 sport with a Dana 44 rear.

All rubicons have front and rear disc brakes on the 44s, and TJs were only produced 97-06, 07 and newer are JKs

Does that mean that disc brakes were offered as an option? Or was the option the Dana 44, which featured disc brakes?

For sure, rear disc brakes were not an option on the Rubicon models.

Your Rubicon has rear disc brakes because they were standard equipment, not because they were an option.

okay so all post-2002 TJ Dana 44's, regardless of model, received mandatory disc brakes, but if you had say a 2003 X w/ a Dana 35 you would get drums on the rear standard and discs optional?

time for me to purchase a 2003 dealer brochure!

and what about the fender flares on the Sahara, were they wider than on the X/SE/Sport?

I have one. Hang tight and I will look at it.

Okay, here is what the '03 brochure says:

The Sahara fender flares are described as exra-wide, same as the Rubicon.
Rear disc brakes are not offered as stand-alone option.
ABS is not available with any Dana 44.

yes they are

per wiki : Sahara: 1997-2004 came standard with 4.0 L, wider body colored fender flares, body colored rocker sills, 30" wheel and tire group and full steel doors. The Sahara also feature exclusive decals, seats and trim. For 2000-2004 they had 16" rims instead of the standard 15". Once again the Dana 44 rear axle, and 3.73 axle ratio was optional.

thanx folks i got it now: the rear disc brakes were not a stand-alone option after 2002 but instead came with the Dana 44 axle option, which never got ABS. so, no TJ could have 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

16" wheels on 2000-2004 Saharas? my brochure shows 15" Canyon wheels as the only wheel on the 2002 Sahara. In fact, all 2002 Wranglers got 15" wheels but of different widths, per the brochure. Only 16" TJ wheel I could find was the Moab's on the TJ Rubicon, is that right?

You're confused here. What the brochure actually says is that the Convenience Group is optional on the SE and X trim levels, but is standard on the Sport and Sahara. (This was a change for 2002; in 2001 the Convenience Group was optional on the Sport. That's why the 2002 brochure says the 7-speaker stereo requires the Convenience Group; this info was simply cut and pasted from the 2001 options list.) You'll also notice the 7-speaker stereo is not available on the SE or X trim levels.

Now that you've re-read the list of standard equipment, you know that every Sahara did indeed have the Convenience Group.

The Sahara was always available in limited colors. Remember that, at the time, the Sahara came standard with a unique two-tone green/tan interior. For that reason, Jeep only offered the Sahara in paint colors which they felt complimented this interior. Just imagine how the green/tan interior would clash with Amber Fire, or Solar Yellow, etc and you'll quickly understand the wisdom of their decision.

Sadly enough, I know a few jackwagons that would find that color combo appealing..

thanks for the info on the Convenience Group, makes sense.

of the ten exterior colors, wouldn't the green-faced Sahara seats also look fine with Silverstone? Even Solar Yellow would be a good combo. Maybe Amber Fire also but certainly not the two blue shades.

Back in the musclecar days of the 60's green interiors were very common and Detroit shipped lots of silver over green and yellow over green automobiles. Tough on the eyes, but doable.

Maybe Jeep restricts the colors on the Sahara for same reason they restrict them on the Grand Cherokee SRT8, they want to add exclusiveness to the top-dollar version?

....and what about the 2003-2006 Saharas? In those years, the seats were not two-tone green/camel but were all-khaki.

Did the '03-'06 Saharas also only come in a limited number of exterior colors?

didn't Jeep call the 2003-2006 interior color "Khaki"? But yeah the fabric looks more brown than khaki. could you get a silver Sahara in 2003?

This is incorrect. I have a 2003 Sahara and have the Dana44 rear axle so no ABS but also no rear disc brakes.

So the Disc brakes became an option if you selected the Dana44/towing pakage as an option. Got it?

The 2003 Wrangler sales brochure (USA version) suggests otherwise.

Sure enough, that was an option for the Sport (only) in 2006.

http://www.jeep.com/pdf/wrangler/complete.pdf

Evidently, drum brakes were part of the price of having ABS.

Don't forget: it isn't just the green seating surfaces. There is also the matter of the tan dashboard and interior panels, and that is what would clash with most of the non-Saraha colors.

Back in the muscle car era you mentioned, when you ordered a green interior you got a green interior--green seats, green dash, green carpet, green steering wheel... green everything.

Incorrect.

I don't have ABS. I have drum brakes. I have a D44 rear.

Furthermore I have 3 friends with exactly the same setup but different year Saharas.

I posted a link to the 2006 sales brochure. I fail to see how your situation demonstrates that said brochure is incorrect.
