2002 X With 184000 Miles

So I have the opportunity to purchase a 2002 X with 184k miles. Supposedly a lot of freeway miles. Had a 95 Wrangler way back when, never this high of mileage. Does anyone have a Wrangler on here with that many miles on the 4.0? I know these aren't Hondas that will run for 500k miles. Is 184 too much and what should I be looking at having to change in the near future? Thanks for the info!!!

7100. I think that's pretty decent. I'll be 8k into it with tax, registration, etc.

I've posted this before. It's worth posting again. Not my rig, but I know the service guy. Nothing but regular maintenance - and a tranny 200k miles ago.

Wow. Thanks!!! I'm coming from the Diesel truck side of the house, so I'm not too up to speed on what new components are going to cost me. Say for instance I need a new trans.....I'd be looking at 4k for a pretty decent on in a 2500 truck. What would a jeep trans be? Clutches are pretty easy to replace. Rear ends, how do the Dana rear ends hold up? I hear jeeps have troubles with exhaust leaks after a certain # of miles. I'm definitely not the Rubicon wheeling type, just want something to drive back and forth to work that doesn't look like a putter jeep, and I don't really drive more than 8k miles a year. I'm thinking the 184k jeep for 7100 isnt too bad of a deal. Are replacement parts pretty expensive?

My 97 with 187k still gets 19-22mpg. I have 4.0 and 5spd, with 17s and 265/70-17 tires, street tires. When I got it I changed all fluids 2x bcs they looked like hadn't been changed in a while, gave it a tune-up, repl front 02 sensor, the thing just runs great. This is my first jeep and I like it alot. It still needs some work but I only paid $2500 for it.

7100 seems high with the miles. I would look for an older sport model with the dana 44 rear and see what you can find. Or if you can get this one closer to the 5k range.

Dude...How are you getting 19 - 22mpg? Do you roll down hils and turn the engine off? Are you sure that calculator is working right?

I know 7100 sounds like a lot. I look on yahoo cars and see the same type of jeeps for 1-2k less than here in California. Why is that? Oregon, Washington, Colorado, they all have the same jeeps for 5-6k. Stupid CA.

bout what i get with a 4 banger 5 spd. i check it the old fashion way-set the trip od, fill up and next time divide miles by gallons. average 21 but have been as hi as 22 and as low as 19. I don't baby it but i don't beat it either and i'm doing 80 mi a day to work and back-some stop/go, some open rd (@55-65) sure beats my 2500HD w/gas saver 8.1L
50 mph in 2nd sounds mean but plays hell with mileage

about what i paid for my 98 w/more miles on it-but it is super clean w/no rust anywhere. doubt it ever left the blk top. was going to change front diff fluid-looked brand new so i left it. looked it up in NADA and price was in the ball park so it wasn't a bad deal. If you like it and are happy with the price(who ever is) and don't feel like you're gettin the shaft-go for it.

You will get decent gas mileage if you don't put a/t 33's on it. Tires make a huge difference, I drive 80 miles per day, mostly highway and I don't baby it either. How your vehicle is set up can make it or break it.

I pd 8K here in noCal for a 2001 with 119, 4.0 auto, hardtop, ac, 3"lift, new treads, super clean. If it's loaded, that may not be too bad, I'd offer 6K and negotiate from there. Good luck!
