2003 Rubi Need your thoughts...

Ok so was looking through the Houston Craigslist this morning and found a 2004 Rubi already lifted with the tube fenders and brand new 33" BFG's all the way around Including the spare. It is in beautiful condition. Only there's a few small problems... The odometer is reading 88888 but it was reading that when the previous owner bought it in 2009 and the title says it's an 03 and it had 34,xxx miles so no one knows the true odometer reading. Mechanic says it can be done for 600 and it could take up to a week to figure it out. He's askin 12500. Think it's worth it? Let me know ASAP.

Sounds fishy for that kind of money. Can you afford to get screwed? Don't mean to be harsh, but the title sayin 03 sounds messed up.

Have a mecanic you know who has knowledge of Jeeps go over it with a fine tooth comb.. But to me it sounds like you should step away before you get Rubi-cond

Yea cause I dont wanna buy it then find out oh it has 250,000 miles on it and bam there goes 12 grand. But i could swap my engine and trans into it that has 50k miles on it and then sell mine with the jacked up engine but that would be messed up for the person who bought it. I think I'll just let it be and keep mine for now.

Ok so just talked to the guy selling it. He's an officer at the Houston PD. He said he bought it from a pretty reputable dealer in league city. I know the guys who own this dealership and they're some pretty good people so i dont see why they would screw him over like that but they might have... maybe i'll call them and see whats up.

Before you buy...Think about financing (if necessary), registering it/insuring it with that title. Not trying to rain on your parade. Rather...Trying to storm the purchase before it may cause a hurricane for you...

To use as a reference point: I bought a 2003 Rubicon in August of '08. It had 7500 miles on it with a 4" lift, and 33" tires on alloy rims. Paid $13500 out the door. Felt like I'd stole it.

Yea you did steal it! Nice find...

The 88,888 odomiter issue isnt a big deal. My Rubi has the same issue but I can get the odom reading by plugging it up to a computer. Make sure you can do that and I dont think its a big deal...

The title thing is another issue....

Select jeeps? They are always over price and think their sheit don't stink.

I totally agree with you lariat, they are way over priced on there vehicles but i've bought plenty of parts from them that weren't over priced and they seemed to be good people but maybe i'm wrong. If I can get the odometer reading I might just purchase it. If not then I'll let it be. Is having a rubi really worth it? I have a 2005 TJ X right now with the 30 up front and 44 in the back with a 4" lift and 33" tires. To get the rubi I'm gonna have to sell mine. Think it's worth selling mine to get it?

Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. First get familiar with the differences - and why they are different, and of course what you intend to do with it. There's a world of difference.

The odometer - a dealer's DRB scanner should be able to find out the mileage and the year just by plugging it in. I doubt they'd charge you much. They may even be able to fix it - the PCM may have been replaced once and never properly calibrated.

If it's not stolen, sounds like a great deal.

well i know the rubi has dana 44's front and rear which is definately a plus and also has the lockers which is another bonus. It's mostly gonna be a daily driver but eventually it'll become and offroad only vehicle so that would be nice not to have to add those things in the future not to mention cost effective. here's some pics he sent.

Looks good. Look, if you can't get it figured out don't worry about it. There are plenty more jeeps out there and they are only going to get cheaper as it gets colder outside

Did you check the axles? If the title is wrong on it being an 04, wonder if it is actually a Rubicon. I hate to be a naysayer....Would rather that you have a Jeep you don't have to worry about.

With the Rubicon you also get the 4:1 t/case and 4.10 gears. Go there with $11500 cash. Looks like a nice platform for future upgrades. Check and make sure it goes into 4lo and the Rubi air lockers actually work. Looks like Gen-Right flares and skid.
