2004, 58k, $9,500 is it a go?

Scouting a wrangler in Utah.

I've seen people on this site buying wranglers with over 70k miles, for $6,000, and considered a good deal.

is this deal too good to be true?

It's a good deal but the reason it seems so good is because its a 4 cyl not the 4.0l. If it was the 4.0 it would be between 12k and 15k around me if the condition was good

Agree with the others. probably base model. 4 cylinder, half doors, paint iffy. There's better ones out there for the $'s.

it's gonna be my first wrangler, I'm planning to drive it down to death valley from salt lake city during long weekend, twice a month.. so I think 4cyl is fine, I don't know, will it?

Thanks yall! Very helpful... what if I get down to 8,000 with the seller?

4cyl.brings down the valuation big time.Resale is poor also.Just noticed the paint on passenger side ain't matching to well also the rear panel near tail gate is rusting pretty ggod for amount of miles. That tells me the frame is probably rusted pretty good to.Id'e pass.

I saw that too, probably a dent, and later caused rust..

haven't checked the jeep in person.. I was more thinking get a bottom line here, so I went there prepared..

4 cylinders aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Sure they aren't as powerful as the 4.0 but it's definitely not a bad engine. I got my '98 2.5L with 57k miles for $8,900. So I'd say it's a good deal as long as body looks good. Mine was flawless except for one, maybe two pinpoint dings in the paint.

I say good deal if body n frame are str8. It has low miles and regardless of issues, it's easy to work on. I did a rebuild on my 4 and get almost 20 mpg(city and highway), not sure what factory gets but I bet it's better than the 6 cylinder. The 4 cylinder also puts out plenty of power in 4 low. Check it out in person. I would also check the tag on differential and see if it is a 4.10. If not 4.10 or 4.11, I would probably pass

Find a 2.5L that is depreciated out in the $5K-$6 range (or a 4.0L that has depreciated out to $7-8K) and it will then hold its value if you take care of it. That one is going to continue to depreciate over the next few years.

That jeep has a 2.4l not the 2.5l if its manual it has a 6 speed and 3.73 gears. The 2.4l is the same engine in a dodge neon. It's a decent little engine but IMO the 6 spd ruins it for me. They're fine on a 4.0l just not on a 2.4l just my thoughts.

4 cylinder with 3.73 would b a no go for me, look elsewhere. Your acceleration would b garbage

From what I can see in the picture, I'd be very leary of the wrinkle below the door on the driver side. That's right where the tubs tend to buckle in a frontal crash.

This is good advice. I was in class and didn't get a chance to look at it. I'd walk if this is the case. No matter what they say, it's not worth the risk.

I agree the 2.5L is a good engine. But you don't want a jeep that's been in a wreck. Bent frames are no fun.

Thanks for all the advice..

I'll probably check out in person... and then walk away...
maybe the "dent" turned out to be something else, like a sticker..

Love my LJ but miss my 04 TJ 4-banger. At 8k it is a good enough deal. It will be 5 speed if manual and not much of a highway cruiser but plenty fun off-road. Cheaper meant less worry and a great second vehicle.

I have an 04 2.4

I hate that motor... good luck moving on the highway.
I love everything about my Tj except the 2.4, it does fine offroad though.
IDK, Look for a 4.0
