2004 shock question

i just got this jeep with a lift on it. i took it to desert rat and they said it had a 3 inch lift of unknown origin. so i bought shocks from 4wheelonline and waited 2 weeks, no show so i call them and they have a problem. rancho 9000's dont come in 3 in lift size. only 2.5 or 3.5. so which is better to get?

I'll probably get flamed for telling you to do it this way but o well. Measure the distance between the upper and lower shock mounts at ride height, then find out the compressed and extended length of the shocks you're looking at. With a little math you should be able to figure out which shock will be about in the middle of its stroke at ride height and order that one. I'll bet its the 2.5.

which is the better of the two evils, to have a shock too long or too short?

I've dealt with both and decided they suck equally
