2004 TJ Error Codes

I understand codes can be retrieved using a plug-in reader or by using the key on-off method. Is there a more detailed description of retrieving error codes in either the TJ Owner's manual or the Service Manual?

Thats actually one of the better methods. Then just go on Google and look them up. And its Free. For a more detailed look at codes and stuff you will need a good quailty OBD code reader.

What do you mean more detailed discription of retrieving? Do you mean what do the codes mean or how to do it? You can find the code meanings on this forum and a lot of other places across the web. Note OBDII codes are pretty much universal and not Jeep specific. How OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON. The code will be displayed in the odometer window Pxxxx

Ooops - Sorry my question didn't make much sense. I know the codes and the methods are available on the Internet, but was curious if the retrieval process along with the codes were covered in the owners' manuals.
