Looking at a 04 Wrangler Rubicon with 202K miles. Drives fine, Clutch is getting replaced, needs oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket, and wheel alignment. $10,600 out the door. Whats peoples thoughts?
What he said, too many miles! Run don't walk to a better deal. You would be buying a bunch of problems for your money. You should be able to buy that many problems for a lot less money.
Could've sold my 04 sport with 175k for 8300 last summer. Rubicon definitely commands a premium, but not that much with that many miles. Especially down south where jeeps tend to be cheaper.
This is buying from a dealer not private. Nada clean retail is 11300. 10600 out the door with a new clutch seems reasonable.
Jeeps are not that much cheaper down here than you think. I've been looking.
202,000 is a lot... For the time and money you'll have to put into it to keep it going you would be better off spending $5,000 extra and buying a really nice TJ.
I bought my Rubi in South Carolina for 11,500 with a warn winch, 1" body lift, rear bumper with swing out tire carrier, 33's, and 115,000 miles. I think you can do better
I got my 04 Rubicon with 24k miles for $17k... 3 sets of doors.. 3 sets of tops.. Like new the thing is minty fresh! also with front and read disc breaks.. I'd keep looking...
Paid 11,500 for mine with 130K. already had warn winch, 3.5 inch lift, and pretty fresh 33's, BUT I've ended up having to replace shocks, control arms, steering parts, track bar, etc and it still needs some more lovin'
Dude it's got 202K on it...... That's like your girl getting rammed 202,000 times by someone you do NOT know. You can get much better for that price. I'm about to buy a 06 with 59K rubi LJ for $17-18K. No way should an 04 w/ 202K be $10K+
Have you negotiated this price or is this what they offered you? Sometimes, to get the best price, you must be willing to walk away from the deal. Personally, it has too many miles for me to bother with if I planned to keep it 5 years or so. But for you, if you really like it, find a price your willing to pay. Give it to the dealer and if they won't budge, thank them for their time and walk out. You might get a call the next day. As others have said, there may be better buying opportunities out there now or a bit of time down the road.
im not like the others.. its a little high but not crazy..seems tight in line for what dealers charge for a good clean runing good.. and for 11 years old none of that is a huge deal.. speciley if the biggest thing is already geting fixed

Price is high, but's it's a Rubi & on a dealer's lot. The good news is that 202k is going to scare away the majority of America. It also looks clean & stock, which may indicate it hasn't been beating to death. If she's mechanically sound I wouldn't be scared, but I wouldn't pay anything north of 8 grand.
Keep looking. When you find the one, you will know. If you're questioning it this much now...just wait till you're driving it and listening for any noise and vibration because you just spent 11k when you weren't sure about it.
at that mileage you need bearings in both axles, transmission, transfer case, shocks, springs are probably worn out and droopy.....lets not even get into the wiring!
keep in mind all if this are things that could have already been fixed. .
agine juat b/c it is well used dosnt mean its abused... yes alot can be wrong. . but it will likely have more to do with being 11 years old then it will with the milage
I say go for it if it is what you want. It looks good you can't even tell it has that many miles and doesn't appear to be hurt. I have 147k and people say that to many miles lol so if it what you want go for it and welcome to the club
Looks clean. Its a Rubicon (or looks that way with the stickers and wheels).
Price isn't out of line for a dealer. Private guy probably ask 9 for it and would get it sooner or later. Looks like a pavement princess most of its life.
The alignment as Scotty D mentioned is a legitimate concern. None if an alignment fixes whatever triggered the motivation to need an alignment.
Fwiw...at 100,000 miles most are due for brakes, track bar, a u joint or two, parking brake probably don't work, hvac don't work on anything other than high, fuel filter/check valve failing...
Point is you could spend more and probably end up with the same headaches. At 200k surely some of that has been done in recent past.
I might bite on that one IF it drove nice, didn't leak, no warning lights showing in the dash, NO vibrations. Big one there. I know how it is when you are test driving a new rig. The excitement of possible ownership causes (me anyways) to perhaps disregard my better judgement of little things like misses and vibrations.
If its as clean on the bottom as it appears on top...you would be hard pressed to find a much nicer one for that kind of money. Big difference between 10 and 15k.
Be ready to stick a few bucks into it as you would probably any jeep 90,000 miles on up.
Thats a lot of money for a high mileage TJR. I paid 13,800 5 years ago for an '05 with 65K miles. Now with 120K miles I'd be lucky to get much over 10K.
