Been lurking here for a while... Thinking of getting a Wrangler for a play toy to replace my motorcycle I sold a few years back.
Found a 2005 Wrangler LJ on Craigslist I am interested in. It is a 2005 with 37,000 miles, soft an hard top. They are asking 16k which they did say is negotiable. NADA says around 16k retail for this Jeep. It does have some minor damage on the tailgate that I would have repaired. They just ha new tires put on it. I have looked on EBay at completed auctions and it appears to me that the market for these things is really slow. Not may of them selling... At least not anywhere close to retail.
What do you guys think a fair offer would be for the Jeep described above.
I bought an lj last year with 65k for $16,000. It has a hard top, 6 speed, 2" coil spacers, and 33's. Had no body damage though. What they're asking, as long as everything is mechanically sound, is probably a fair price
I bought my 2004 LJ for $15,000 a year and a half ago.
The day I got it:
Today:
The LJ's are rare to come across below $20,000 (at least here in Cali). If you find one that you like, pick it up because I think they are getting harder to find.
I picked up my LJ with 89,000 miles on it two weeks ago for $13,000. My bud was really surprised that I got it at that price. The LJ is a very rare find, so I would grab it if it were me.
I bought an 05 TJ a few months ago with 50k miles. I have not looked at the that LJ of course but it sounds like a good asking price to me. If I was him I wouldn't take less than 15k, if that low. Not sure how much I'd care about what happens on Ebay. I'd probably not buy one off Ebay either though I've bought two off craigslist.
Thanks for all the replies.....it is greatly appreciated.
I do have one question....
I have read on this forum about these Jeeps being prone to frame rust and corrosion....some to the point of needing a frame replacement. The few that I have read about have been early 2000 models.
Are all of the TJ/LJ Series prone to this issue. I do understand that it has a lot to do with the environment the Jeep is driven in. This Jeep is located in Misouri and has been driven in salt/snow.
The current owner is going to take some photos of the undercarriage and send them to me.
This Jeep is about 500 miles away from me.....just trying to determine if it is something I wish to drive 500 miles for.
Well.... Ended up making the 525 mile trip to see this Jeep. Left yesterday AM and spent the night and met the PO this morning to look at it. The Jeep is in very good mechanical condition. Drive it home 550 miles and not even a hiccup. It does have the fuel backsplash issue.... Happened the first two times I filled up. The third time I slowed the pump down and it did not splash.
The Jeep does need a very good detailing. I know it is a Jeep.... But I like my stuff lookin good. The interior is full of dust. The PO lived on a gravel road. Took it to a local dealer and they ran the scan tool and found no codes in the ECM. Put it on a lift and allowed me to go into the shop to look at the underside. This Jeep has definitely never been mudded. Only issue we found on the underside was the driver side front axle seal was leaking a little. The PO took another $500 off the asking price. Went up there with the anticipation of paying 13.5k and left paying 13k. I do however have axle seal to repair.
I picked up my LJ rubicon a few days ago for $15.9k. 62k miles auto transmission. I looked for months, the LJ is not an easy jeep to find. Hope your happy with your jeep. Best of luck to you.
Congrats on the new toy........selling the M/C to get a Jeep though, I'm not to sure about that. I have M/C's and a Jeep, it helps that the wife rides her own M/C as well, she feeds into the passion of the toys.
They are asking $15900 Mexican Pesos (is around 13k Dollars), so after seeing all your comments I think this baby is a "must buy".
Tires are almost new, they checked for error codes and found nothing, the only issue is a small oil leak on the motor and it dosnt have the driver air bag, what do you think about it??
Well, I did it, I got my 2004 Silver LJ for around 13k dlls, I will post some pics tomorrow. Im so excited about this, this is my first car and I have always wanted a jeep since a was a little child!!
I Love jeeps, but I dont know much about them, so I will start crawling throught all the newbe threads here =)
Well.... Pulling back up an old thread of mine. With the holidays and just busy in general, have not had much time to post.
Here is a pic if the Wrangler LJ.
Since I have gotten it, I have done the following:
Good wash and interior clean. Still need to wax it... Will do that in the spring when it warms up.
Coated every plastic part on the outside with Rustoleum Spray Bedliner.
Installed a Aux Input on the factory radio
Replaced the tailgate with a brand new one I found on EBay....was even the right color.
Bought some Husky Floor Liners
Installed a trailer hitch
Installed clear turn signal lenses in the front
Jeep has been running great... I have put about 2000 miles on it since I got it. Still need to fix the leaking axle seal. A friend has a lift at his house, I plan to take it there in the next month or so to replace the seal.
I am happy with my purchase. Let me know what you think. I need to get a better picture of it outside.
I like the color. Mine use to look like that..... like last june. 2004 Paid 14 with 42k in Seattle. Looked long and hard too. Almost just got a JKU instead. Never have regretted holding out
