2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Fare Price

Hi Guys,

Need some quick advice. My father-in-law is about to trade in his 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It only has 6000 miles on it. Yes, that's right, only 6000 miles! He has never driven it in the rain or the snow. It's basically just sat in his garage for the last 7 years (I know, huge waste!).

Anyhow, it's a manual 6 speed, no power windows, no power locks, soft top only (no hard top), but it does have a 6" lift, along with some huge tires (don't know the name of the lift or the name of the tires - the Jeep is 200 miles away from me).

Anyhow, the dealership offered him $18k. Looks like KBB has it at $22k (excellent condition - which it is!).

What do you guys think his Jeep is worth via Private Party sale? Is $18k good for trade? I wouldn't think so.

Thanks!

Hard to say. 22k gets a buyer awfully close to a new jk. I have the same year, make, and model that I bought 6 months ago. At over 20k I would have been looking at new. Just my ˘2.

You need to sell it yourself. Over all you'll get a better deal.

He can definitely get more selling it privately and it will sell FAST. Mint LJ's are rare and get snatched up quick. Just for comparison, I paid 19,300 for my 06 with 36k and bone stock. LJ's are highly sought after since they were only produced for 3 years and are touted as the best jeeps ever built.

KBB is still relevant. Because that is what Financial Institutions look at when it comes to financing. Trust me, I work for one. So if you go to a private seller, they may need to know that because they might not have cash in hand. Just my 2 cents....

The stealership is only offering you $18k so they can mark it up to $22k...

As for the price, go Private. I paid $19,900 a year ago for an LJ with 33k on it. Bone stock (not anymore ) and nearly mint. So it is definitely worth more the the $18K they are offering. Just depends on how fast he wants to sell.

That's a good price. If its an LJ Rubicon, that's a great price. LJs are getting hard to find.
