I have been looking for a Jeep for the last few months and found one that looks interesting. It is a 2006 Wrangler Golden Eagle with 57,000 hard top manual tranny 4.0L. It has a salvage title. The guy told me the hood popped up when driving and that is why it has a salvage title. The hood and fender(s) where replaced.
Hoping you guys/gals can help me out with a few questions on this Jeep.
Hard top on a 2006 should it have vertical vents behind the rear windows? I thought they stopped those around 2000. The roof could have been damaged/replaced when the hood popped.
What constitutes a Golden Eagle, I saw it had Golden Eagle stitched on the seats.
What should I be looking for on this Jeep? Or any other TJ?
He is sending me the VIN, and I will run a Carfax before driving about 60 miles to check it out. He is asking about 13k for it. Not sure how much the asking price should be dinged for a salvage title. Looks mostly stock with, may have a small lift on it, maybe 2".
I have a golden eage and its a sticker package like stated above but does have a D44 rear. FWIW i paid 16,500 on it with 4.0, auto, soft top, full doors and 47,000 on it
I agree, something is fishy here, he is being a little elusive with the VIN number. I think I will continue to look around. I can't believe how many Wranglers are around with salvage titles. Eventually, I will find what I am looking for.
I just bought my pristine 2006 Golden Eagle with 70K miles (soft top and brand new 31 inch BFG's) for $16,500 which I felt was a bit high so I think he is asking too much for a salvage title vehicle.
Let's turn this around a bit. Here are my requirements:
TJ
Hardtop
Manual Tranny
80-120k miles
4.0L
Good condition - No/minimal rust
Pretty much any color but yellow (live in Iowa and don't want Hawkeye colors)

depending on the year and model (ie: a '97 Sport vs a 2003 Sahara) and other options (ie: Dana 44 axle, 30" Tire and Wheel Group, etc.)....I'd say you are looking at a big range of possible pricing, maybe $6,000 to $14,000.
once you've looked at enough TJs in person you'll be able to spot a good deal when it shows up.
2003 Sport
4.0L
Hardtop/Full doors
Manual Tranny
AC
Cruise
Clean carfax, from the south so rust shouldn't be as bad as a locally owned one (Iowa)
88,000 miles, 2 owner, sold at 53k
Dealer wants $12,999
That seams pretty reaasonable, hopefully knock that down a bit. Looks totally stock.
That is in line with what I was seeing in the South for similar specs. I was originally looking for TJs in the 2002-2006 range with same specs as you before deciding I only wanted a 04-06 LJ. In South Carolina/Georgia prices are strong and nice ones werebe listed in the $12.5k-$15k range
Sent my parents to go see it, it is right by them, a few hunred miles from me. It was sold yesterday. Too bad, I was ready to pull the trigger if they gave me the thumbs up.
it took me over a year.. dont jump at the 1st one you see
