235/75R15's on my '04 Wrangler X?

Hello All...

I just purchased my first jeep after always wanting one. It's a 2004 Wrangler X with that has factory rims with 215/75R15 Courser HTR's. I want to replace them with something a little more aggresive and larger size. A local tire suggested Goodyear Wrangler RTS in 235/75R15.

I can get them for $500 all in. I know the factory specs say I can up to a 225/75R15.

Will the 235's fit okay and what do you think of that tire? I drive mostly highway but will have the opportunitry to do some light off roading. Just wondering if there's any disadvantage with going with the 235's.

If nothing else I think they'll look better than my 215's.

Thanks!

They will fit fine. I have 235 BFG All Terrains which I love.

Wow that's a small tire.my 98 sport came with 30x9.50. And your jeep will fit up to 31x10.50 without rubbing. So its up to you what size tire you want

Assuming your X has a 6 cyl. I would go a little larger. I have that tire on my jeep but it is a 4cyl auto. When I bought it it had 265 76 15's and I loved the look. No rubbing no lift, the 4 cyl just could pull with those tires. Here is a pick with the 265's on it. Somebody that knows more about wheels then me can tell you how wide of a tire you can get on a stock rim.

IMO get a 30x9.5R15. Its the perfect size. a 235 is basically a 29x9.25... For about the same price you get a slightly bigger tire.

Maybe people who need to roll on large tires feel insecure

235's are a good tire, they even have some very aggressive tread styles cheap if wanted. That's what came on my Jeep when I first got it.

I have a 2003 X. My tires are a 30x9.5 15. They fit really nice with no rubbing ever. I would love to go bigger. But right now bigger really isn't in the budget.

When I got my X, it had the same rims with 235's. They ran nice. I recently moved up to 31's and I am very happy

Why do you have different wheels on each side of your jeep?

My 2001 Sahara 6 cyl auto 3:07 differential came stock with 9.5X30X15 and at the first tire change (BFG A/T) I tried 10.5X31X15 and have had no problems, on road or off, in over 30,000 miles. They gave the jeep about 3/4" higher clearance and makes it look a little tougher without the expense of a lift.

When i bought my jeep it came with 215s on it also. Street tires, man did they look small. I wanted tires for on the farm and for my daily driver, somthing a little more aggressive then street tires. When i went to the tire store they suggested GoodYear Wrangler Silent Armors in the 235/75R15. I have had these tires now for a few years and i really like them alot. I have plenty of clearence when going through trails, and across a field or so on the farm. When reading all the posts of what people suggest most will say 31s or 30s. Some will say that 31s fit with no rubbing and some will say you have to adjust the steer stop nut so it won't rub. But Really just put on what you feel you want. I personaly love the 235s that i have, my next tire might be a 30 inch tire but i don't know at this time since im not ready for new tires yet, only time will tell. Here's a pic of mine with 235s. I think they look like a great tire.
