2in or 3in shocks

If I get a 2.25 BB should I get shocks for a 2 or 3 inch lift kit

Well.. if Im correct I think you'd want to go with a 2 inch shock.. since a 3 inch shock would travel to far thus causing problems in off roading... correct me if Im wrong :P
