3 car seats in our TJ?

My husband and I just bought our first Jeep It is a 1999 TJ. We have twin 17 month olds and a 3.5 year old. We would love to figure out a way to get 3 car seats in the back of our Jeep so we can all enjoy it. Our son can be in a highback booster if needed and our daughters are forward facing already! Anyone have any suggestions?

I should also clarify that my husband will bolt in another seat belt so that we are able to securely buckle in 3 seats if possible.

This sounds like a really bad idea.

Maybe this is not what you wanted to hear, but I would look at a jk. I have a friend that is in the same situation as you. He loves his Tj But he loves going out with the family. and is thinking of buying a JK. (more room)

Good Luck……….

I knew people wouldn't like my post but I have seen other people post that they have fit 3 seats in theirs so I wanted to know the secret! If we can't make it work we can't. Bolting in a 3rd seat belt is not a terrible idea, he knows what he is doing as far as welding in a bracket and bolting it down safely. Thanks for the knowledge thus far.

I know in my 2 door TJ 3 car seats aren't going to fit back there... The car seats would be to wide. Have to put them back there to see if they fit?

I wouldn't mess with your kids safety. There are strict tests done to ensure the seat belts are safe. You would get one chance to test your creation. This just has bad juju.

I sold our '94 YJ in '95 in favor of a 4-dr sedan when our baby niece came to live with us. The hardest part of getting the kid in and out of the Jeep was not banging her head on the doorframe or rollbar. She grew up and we got an '06 TJ. Even if you could get three chilluns back there, getting them in and out will get real old real quick, imo.

Sounds like this might have to be a mommy and daddy only vehicle, which is just fine with me too And, we already have one seat in it so I guess our son can go with too!

Even if you got the middle seat belt properly anchored, there is no way to fit that many car seats in there. We have two boosters and they are about 6" from touching in the middle.

I have a 15month old and a 5 year old and have only been able to fit 2 car seats in mine, there is only a few inches between them. There just isn't enough real estate to fit a third, nor is is safe to do so. There are only 2 anchor points for car seats anyway. Don't gamble on safety, you need a different mode of transport for them. Sorry.
