You can pick up bump stop extensions for a few bucks. I don't have a bb but I can say I run Bilstien HD shocks with stock springs and love them. Best shock I ever used

I'm going through pretty much the same thing. I have a 1993 full size Chevy Blazer with 11" lift and 40 " Superswampers. Well I just traded my Supercharged Dodge Challenger to get my daughter her first car. I got her a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Now I'm looking to put a lift on it for her and although I'm not looking to go as big as my Blazer, my wife thinks I am. I'm only wanting to do a 3" lift with 33 at the most but I can not convince my wife of that. What do you do?

There's a really good Jeep salvage company here in Colorado Springs. I might just run by there and see if they have any ZJ springs. So if I understand you correctly, that will provide me with 2" of lift in the front? Thanks!

2+" of lift. I had a 2" BB on the front and when I swapped to a set of ZJ springs I got another inch of lift. It removed most of the factory rake and I liked the stance as well as the increase articulation from having a full spring instead of a BB.

This is with 2" BB (take note of the soda can).



This is with the 2" BB removed and replaced by ZJ springs.

check out the zone 3in its great and i love the look i run it with 33 and flat fenders which i think look bad ass i plan to move to 35 eventually tho

Ha ha... I've been busy over the last few years upgrading a bunch of stuff. My wife has finally stopped nagging me about every purchase.

Anyway, I started out back in 2010 with a 2" BB and 1.25" BL running the same 33" Duratracs I have now. My Jeep stayed stock for 10 years! That lift allowed me to run 33s okay on the street, but offroad I found I was running on my bumpstops too much and very little to any flex was present. I noticed that the front sat lower than the rear (factory rake) and that if I could get some sort of flex and additional clearance up front I'd perform better offroad. A member of my local Jeep club offered up a set of v8 ZJ springs for $20 and I felt that even if I didn't get additional lift, the increase travel would come in handy until I could get a "real" lift. I removed the 2" BB from the front and replaced them with the ZJ springs and got another inch over what I had with the 2" BB in front. Awesome! I had both more travel and more clearance up front.

I still hated the idea of having half of a lift and talked the wife into getting me a set of 3" Savvy/Currie springs for Christmas in 2011. Knowing that I'd likely get driveline vibes with the 3", I got a 1" mml to go along with it. Unfortunately, I still got vibes and had to drop the TC with 3 washers per bolt hole. Remember now, I still had stock everything except for springs and shocks. Stock trackbars, stock control arms, no SYE or CV driveshaft, and no relocation brackets for the rear trackbar. My frankenlift wasn't perfect, but it was capable for what I was wheeling.

At the end of 2011 I knew I had to do something about the rest of my suspension. I needed to address both trackbars, I needed a SYE/CV driveshaft, which meant I also needed rear upper control arms, the relocation bracket blah blah blah. I also wanted to not only get rid of my transfer case drop but tuck it as well. I decided to start saving up to get all the stuff I'd need and didn't want to cheap out.

My plan fell a little short of my goal to have all this ready for this coming wheeling season since my dog chewed up my sofa. I had to buy a new sectional for the wife and that took a big chunk of my build money. So I got everything except for the new skid. I opted to just go ahead and get the 4" Savvy/Currie kit from SavvyOffroad.com along with their TW driveshaft and AA SYE. With the weather being miserable, I've only been able to do a little at a time and still need to install the rear springs. I have to say that my Jeep now rides much, much better with the SYE. I didn't realize it until after I installed it that I still had vibes before I installed it.

So now, I have a 5.25" lift with 33s getting ready to move to 35s on the next set of tires. Oh, but before I do that I need a regear and lockers

Easy, but more expensive. You have to buy stuff for her too. She doesn't even ask anymore. The hardest part is finding the time to install the stuff I've bought. I don't know how many times I had to install stuff at night with a headlamp on after the kids are in bed. But when I first started, I told her stuff like this kit comes with a shocks plus a lift for just a little more then buying shocks or my bumpstops were too close so I needed to lift it a little more to keep from bottoming out. I had to get a body lift because the tires I wanted didn't come in 32" and 33" needed another inch.

are those 33s? what exactly is the budget boost..just a spacer below the spring? how's the ride of a "budget boost" over stock?

33" Duratracs actually measure at 32.4" so it is a "small" 33" tire. Here are those tires the day I put them on and the day before my body lift came in the mail.


and just before that with 2" lift on 29" tires (yuck).

I only drove to work the one day and installed the body lift the next day. It was very, very close and it definitely couldn't be taken offroad. I wouldn't recommend it.

The ride sucked because the shocks that came with the kit sucked. With better shocks it should have been the same since the springs are the same. Now with ZJ springs, they are a higher spring rate and gave a stiffer ride, but not uncomfortable at all. Actually, I liked them better since I like a stiffer rate up front. My adjustable Rancho shocks are set stiffer for the front than the rear for the same reason. ZJ springs are about the same uncompressed length as TJ springs. They just don't compress as much due to the higher spring rate.

Good to know. I am really wavering on what type of lift to get. I want to keep a good soft ride. Imthinkma 3" suspension might be too much. Maybe a 1" bl and a bb with some good shocks is the way to go.......

I'm on a tight budget and for now only went with a 2 inch lift with a set of 32 inch BFG all terrains. I went with BDS Suspension 2 inch coil springs which ran me around $200 for all 4 springs. It looks and rides great for now until future plans come through. With the BDS suspension you can't go wrong and it doesn't ride much different than stock quality. Install was a breeze.

You can go to BDS website and find the part number for just the rear and front springs. And luckily I found a shop around me that sold BDS products at a good price without the cost of shipping and at a better price than ordering right from the site.

After looking at pics of jeeps running 31's and being dwarfed in too many parking lots I have decided to add a small lift and go 32 or 33's. I'm prolly gonna go 2" bb but can't decide what size tires. I have a 2.5l w 4.10 so I am leaning toward 32 for power reasons. Anyone have a similar setup that can compare drivability? Does anyone have a pic of a 32 and 33 parked side by side?
