3 questions.....

1) is a 98 jeep wrangler with a rebuilt 4cyl, auto trans, 4x4, hard, soft and bikini top, is red with black interior, good rims n tires with no other known problems worth the $6800.00 asking price?
2) what kind of gas mileage do these 4cyl jeeps get?
3) is this to old of a jeep to buy for a 16 year old son?

Thanks in advance everyone. I have been a long time fan of jeeps and am at the brink of buying one for my son but I just have some obvious questions.

I get a steady 18mpg from mine. I do think that jeep is overpriced though. I got mine with 87k for 5k. And I also don't ever trust a "rebuilt" motor when buying a used car. Also unless its a 5 speed I would pass on it. The 4cyl. Is slow PERIOD I can't even imagine it mated to an auto.

1 how many miles does it have?

2 it's a jeep so the gas milage is horrible but I wouldn't trade mine for the world.

3 hell no it's not too old. I'm a grown adult with a full time job and I would buy a 98 jeep wrangler in a heart beat. Your son will love it.

He is correct. I would keep looking for a 6 cylinder. Although there is NOTHING wrong with the auto trans it's just worth it to have a little extra power with the 6 cylinders. I would have loved a 4 cylinder wrangler to be my first car though. Nothing wrong with that. He can always upgrade in a year or two.

The engine work is all documented with a warranty and done by a reputable shop.
The Jeep has 125k on the odometer.
I wouldn't consider the 4cyl either for myself but just think it might be ok for a 16 yo

At least with a 4 cylinder jeep you don't have to worry about him trying to race his friends.

The only thing that would worry me is the rebuilt engine. Price range varies by region. I paid $79k for my 97 but she was bone stock unmolested and had 64k original miles.

All that being said don't fear the 4cyl. They are geared steeper than the 6 and plenty torquey. I'm running 31X10.50s and can go any where my buddies with a 400hp 6cyl race motor and 32s will. He'd kill me in a drag race but that's not what jeeps are made for.

Also I'm consistently getting ~18-20 MPG depending on quality of gas I can find. (Mine doesn't like ethanol)
