31" tires on stock rims?

hey guys,

i've had my jeep for about 2 weeks now and i definitely want to put 31's on it for now, but will they fit on the stock rims? or will i have to buy new rims as well? I know they're 15's but don't know the width, its an 04 tj

thanks!

10.5 is as wide as you can go before you start rubbing. So yes if it's a 31x10.5

which rims do you have? some jeep rims are 15x8 and some are 15x7. if its 15x8 i know you are good to 12.5. with 15x7 u dont want to go over 10.5

They should. You may have rubbing on the control arms at full lock but you can adjust the steering stops to fix that.

Duratracks are great. But, even with what you have on there the Jeep is a loooong summer of offroading ahead of your skills. Enjoy it and check out what it will do as is, As you get better it gets expensive, LOL

lift has nothing to do with the width of the tire...you can put an 8" long arm lift on a tj and still only fit a 10.50" wide tire if you have stock rims...

jdubp44, 31x10.50s will fit on your jeep just fine with your stock wheels...they might rub when you turn the wheel all the way to one side but just barely...probably the best tire for highway and ocassional trail riding will be BFGoodrich All Terrains..on a jeep they'll last 50,000 miles easy, ride smooth on the road and have a 3ply sidewall so you can air them down off road and they'll do great..people on here praise the Goodyear Duratrac's yes they are an awesome tire, ride smooth and get good mileage but they have a 2 ply sidewall, airing down too much off road and you can cut the sidewall..i have the Kelly version of those tires and have split 2 sidewalls and was only aired down to 18psi...also dont be afraid to get mud terrains...the BFG km2's have a great repuation for street driving just not the best in the rain/snow

i have 32x11.5 michelins on my canyon rims and they rub bad if you have to make a tight turn. im considering either new rims or some wheel spacers.

What is the metric equivalent, if any, of 31x10.5?

Shoot I just put a 1" body lift (no added clearance) and good armor on the bottom. Then got some used 10" rims with 5.5" backspaceing with 32x12.50x15 ProComps (added some clearance) and turned my son loose with it. He bounced it off everything in TN and no damage. There was a little rub with the tires but nothing serious except on the flairs when he stuffed the wheel wells. Like in the pic below right passenger. Plus the wheels stuck out and protected the body of the Jeep.

I'm on my second set of 31" tires on Ravine rims. The first were BFG AT's and the second MT MTZ's.

I have American raving rims on mine and 31's have plenty of clearance. My rims are pretty much stock rims and I have no problem. My buddy at school has stock rims with 31's and his work fine too. I don't see you having a problem

They'll fit easily. Just add some washers to the steering stops to prevent rubbing when you turn. Mine has 31's.

Got a question...I have the same set up as the OP is wanting (31x10.50 on stock rims) but mine rub when I turn sharp one way or the other. If I get a different backspaced wheel will it cure the issue?

How much backspacing do you think would be good enough?
