31" tires question?

Will 31" BFG Mud terrains fit the stock TJ without rubbing issues
Heres my rig all stock, thats as high as I made it with an open diff and its about as close to rock crawling as I can get in south La.

I've read here both answers, yes and no,Also would rims with 3.75" backspacing cause the tires to rub the flares?

yes 31's will fit.. and with that backspacing you can run 32's but you wont be able to go wheeling without rubbing.
Figure out the biggest tire you want to put under your jeep and then you can figure out what lift you need.
A 2" BB will fit 32's and you can wheel with it.

You should have no worries!! I had 31x10.50x15 15x8 eagle alloys and had no problem..went with the 2" budget boost (ebay) and had a lot of clearance....with no problems...x2 with the BB..

I have 31x10.5xr15 firestone destinations on both of my TJ's they do rub a little on the lower control arms when you turn the wheel lock to lock even with a two inch lift. But you can shim the stearing stops. To do this get three 10mm washers. Put one on the passanger side and two on the drivers side. That is all I had to do now They dont rub at all. Search around here for more detailed instructions this is where I found it.

i have 31x10.50 muds and up until last night had no lift at all. i BARELY rubbed on the lower control arms while at full turn lock..

still barely rub with the 2 inch lift.. because the geometry of the lower suspension hasnt changed.

but you can easily fit them. you might rub at full flex but i doubt it

Not true, the geometry of your suspension did change with the 2'' BB. The reason you still rub is the backspacing of the factory wheels with a 10.50 wide tire.

nope.. im running a 3.75 backspacing on my 32's but thats because they are 11.5 wide.
i'm pretty sure 32's will work fine on stock rims with a 2" bb but im sure one of the guys that knows more will chime in right about......

I did the standard fix for 31s which is the two washers under the steering stops to limit the angle to which the tires can turn. This eliminates rubbing.

You can run 31x10.5 with those wheels with no rubbing at all. There must be other stock wheels with another backspacing because some people say they need to use washers to limit there steering.

Yes it depends on the factory wheel you have /width of tire. Some do with a 10.5 tire some don't.

But if someone is still rubbing on the lower control arms when turning it is due to the backspacing of the wheel and the tires width.

If anyone knows what stock rims do not allow 31x10.5" tires to fit without rubbing then post it, maybe we can narrow it down for some people.

Any stock 15x8 wheels will rub. The stock 15x7's some don't have issues with but some still get some rubbing at full lock on the control arms. Easily fixed by adjusting the steering stops.

I have 31X10.50 BFG ATs on factory 15X8 aluminum Ravine wheels on my 04 TJ Rocky Mountain Edition. Stock suspension. No rubbing on fenders, flares, or control arms. Back Spacing on my rims is 5.5 inches.

Have the steering stops been adjusted?
Was the tires on it when you purchase the jeep?

Look at the lower control arm in the middle of them....missing any paint or has rub marks?]
