32" or 33"

So it's finally come down to this point guys and gals. I just received my 2"BB with Skyjacker Hydro shocks and I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of tires [preferably M/T]. I've heard a lot of people saying that 33"s will need at least 3" of lift. Is this true? I just don't want to get 32"s and regret not getting that 1" later down the road. I'm currently running a rear D44 with a 3.73 ratio. I've also read something about backs pacers being needed, and I have no idea what this means. I've only had the Jeep for about 3months and I'm still trying to get everything together.

EDIT*
I may be getting a 1"BL in the near future. Not a 100%

Thanks for everything guys,
You've all been more than helpful!

Im running a Rancho 2.5" and I shoved some 33x12.5 Baja Claws under it. I rub a tiny tiny bit when I turn the wheel all the way. If you go with a less aggressive tire and the correct backspacing you can get away with 33"s. Id go with that just because they are bigger.

I would say that lift and that gearing suits 32s best

i have 32's with 3.73 gears. i'm glad I went with the 32's. 33's would not be good with that gearing

Depends.....32s with your setup would be good. Or if you think (or even suspect really) that you might want the 33s down the road, get a 1 or 1.25" BL and the 33s.

I had 32s for a year (they came on my jeep from the PO) and just recently replaced them with 33s. The difference is noticeable, but not terribly so.

Well the differance from a ground cleance from a 32 to 33 is only 1/2 inch and lots of money. The reason being is the axle is in the center of the tire so you only see half the gain. Is a half inch worth all the trouble and cash. Probly not.

Hey Jeepzcb, do the tires look too big for your setup? My main concern with the 33"s is that i don't want them to look as if they were tucked under the fender, I'd like some clearance. And I don't want the 33"s so that the Jeep looks higher, I want them so that the tires look beefier.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Btw Jeepzcb... Do you happen to have any pics of the Jeep with the setup you have on now? That'd be great man.

Go with 32 x 11.5's.....An M/T tire is going to give it a much more aggressive look which sounds like what you are going for.
You can run just your 2" BB with 32's....then, later down the road, if you want 33's, you'll only really need a small body lift to get an inch more clearance.

If you have stock jeep rims, you probably have 5" or 5.5" backspacing so you may have a rubbing issue. What kind of wheels do you have? Your avatar pic looks like you have Cragars?

Yea to be honest, from what I've read up on... It seems like I'll be going with some 32 x 10.5 or 11.5 [not sure how wide I can go without rubbing]. I got some wheels that came with the truck and I love how they look. They're called "Pacers" and I believe they're 15x8. I'm running 31x10.5 right now with no rubbing.

From your avatar pic, it looks like your tires stick out from under the flares quite a bit, so you probably won't have any issue with rubbing. The backspacing on your wheels looks like you can handle wider tires. Just remember, if you go with 11.5" wide tires, they will stick out a little farther than what your current tires do.
I'm not sure, and they may be available, but I've never seen a 32x10.5" tire. 11.5's will be fine for you.

I'm running 33x10.5 MTs on a 2" suspension lift with a 1.25" body lift. I am really happy with the overall setup . I have the 33s mounted on the OEM wheels that came with the Jeep, alloy Gamblers. The width of the 33s rubbed ever so slightly, but I quickly fixed it with a couple of washers on each steering stop.

I think your current gear ratio would be tolerable with 33x10.5.

Pic of my setup...

On my tj is dosent look crammed. I think it actually looks really good. If you are worried about rubbing at all a 10.5 would be your best bet. But with the amout of lift you have you can still get away with 33"s. A 32 to 33 may not sound like a big deal but if you plan on lifting your jeep more in the furture I'd go with the bigger tires as you will want them.

I'll try pictures but I'm on my phone....

sorry for the crappy picture. I'll get new pictures tomorrow when it's light out.

But you can see that they don't stick out much and don't look crammed

Ok so it's sunny out and I can take some better pictures. As you can see 33"s actually look perfect with 2.5". Also i have had no need to regear till I go 35
